An aerotropolis (also referred to as an airport city, aerocity or aeropolis) is an airport surrounded by commercial and industrial development. Governments and corporations worldwide are pursuing aerotropolis projects, claiming they are 'economic engines' galvanizing growth in the wider region, but critics argue they create environmental, social and economic problems. Global Anti-Aerotropolis Movement (GAAM) works to research aerotropolis developments, help support local struggles against imposition of these megaprojects and build an international campaign community.
