Nnete Okorie-Egbe, a fearless heroine and revolutionary leader from Akwete Ndoki in Ukwa East, played a pivotal role in the Aba Women’s Riot of 1929. Leading thousands of women in protest against the unjust taxation imposed by the British colonial government, she became a symbol of courage and resistance.
Despite being imprisoned for two years in Port Harcourt, her relentless fight led to the abolition of the tax on women. Upon her release, she was celebrated as a hero. Nnete lived to the age of 102, passing away in 1968 during the Nigerian Civil War. Her legacy continues to inspire as a reminder of the power of women to challenge injustice and shape history.

This is a modified published Master of Philosophy thesis of M. Angulu Onwuekeogwu, University College London, of 1974.
Prince Ruben Tabansi of Tabansi Motors later funded it's publication and it was published in 1980 by London and Ethiope Publishing Corporation, Benin City in 1980.
