What is Samadhi?
Patanjali lists different levels of samadhi, but a
good definition in the Katha Upanishad (111:10) is as follows:
[1] When the five senses of perception together with the mind
are at rest, when even the intellect has ceased to function, that, say the sages, is the supreme state.
This is the state where there is complete absence of both external and internal mental modification; all that remains
is awareness. Samadhi brings self-realization.
In the Bhagavad Gita (2:53), it says:
[2]When the intellect, having been perplexed by hearing the
words of the scriptures, stands immovable in samadhi,
then you shall attain self-realization.
The most bland explanation and definition of samadhi is
given in the Yoga Chudamani Upanishad (111-113):
[3] Twelve (protracted rounds) of pranayama lead to pratyahara. Twelve (extended durations of pratyahara
lead to dharana. Twelve such dharanas lead to dhyana
and twelve such dhyanas result in samadhi.

"The mantra AUM or OM"
Pranava is Verily Ishvara(tasya vachakah pranavah)
The sacred word designating this creative source is the sound OM, called pranava.
The lower curve represents the Gross, Conscious, and Waking state level, called Vaishvanara.
The center curve represents the Subtle, Unconscious, and Dreaming level, called Taijasa.
The upper curve represents the Causal, Subconscious, and Deep Sleep level, called Prajna.
The dot, point, or bindu represents the fourth state, the absolute consciousness, which encompasses, permeates, and is the other three, and is called Turiya.
The arc below the dot symbolizes the separateness of this fourth state, standing above, though ever remaining part of the other three.

Derived from the Sanskrit terms pancha, meaning "five" and kosha meaning "sheath" pancha kosha refers to the concept in yoga philosophy that there are five layers of awareness through which all experience is filtered.
At the center of these five layers is atman, otherwise known as the true self. An individualâs unique perspective of reality is believed to come from identification with each of the five koshas, and the path of yoga can help to heighten understanding and awareness of these sheaths.
Since these layers encompass all aspects of existence, from gross to transcendental, pancha kosha also provides a model through which physical, psychological and energetic imbalances can be addressed.
Wellbeing is said to arise when all five sheaths are integrated and balanced, a state in which the veil of maya (illusion) is lifted and any sense of separation between atman and brahman (universal consciousness) is dissolved.

Trataka means to gaze steadily.
There are 2 forms of the practice,
1. Bahiranga or external trataka:- to gaze at an object or symbol
2. Antaranga or internal:- clear and stable inner visualization of an object
