Happy 40th anniversary to Madonna's first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, "Like a Virgin"! This song spent the top for 6 weeks from December 22, 1984 to January 26, 1985, and was ranked #2 on Billboard's year-end chart of 1985 only behind "Careless Whisper (ft. George Michael)" and above "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", both credited to Wham!.
In its history, in 1984, Madonna was working on her album of the same name and she first performed that song in the 1984 MTV VMA while she was dressed as a bride. The single wasn't officially released until October 31, 1984.

On this day, 40 years ago on October 31, 1984, "You're the Inspiration" was released as Chicago's third single in their LP, "Chicago 17", and it's another #3 Hot 100 hit in a row after "Hard Habit to Break". Fun fact. On the Billboard Hot 100, on the last two weeks of January 1985, "You're the Inspiration" peaked at #3 only behind "Like a Virgin" by Madonna at its peak at #1 for the 5th and 6th weeks at the top.

On this day, 30 years ago on October 29, 1994, Mariah Carey released her popular holiday classic, "All I Want for Christmas Is You". It didn't take long until it entered the Billboard Hot 100 at the start of Y2K. It began its annual holiday re-chart in 2012 and finally topped the Billboard Hot 100 on its 25th anniversary during the holiday of 2019-2020. Since the holiday of 2020-2021, it became the second song of the Billboard Hot 100 to reach #1 twice after returning to the chart after "The Twist" by Chubby Checker in 1960 and 1962. Happy 40th birthday to one musician during my childhood and pre-teen years, Katy Perry! She was popular in the late 2000s and 2010s. She did made her comeback in 2024, but her latest LP, "143", peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200. The first single "Woman's World" received negative reviews making it one of the worst comeback singles ever.

On this day, 40 years ago, on October 16, 1984, Pat Benatar released her biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100, "We Belong". This song reached #5 on the chart, the same peak as "Love Is a Battlefield", but it has a better chart run than that song. The song was also featured in the soundtrack of "Deadpool 2" and it's an anthem for Generation X (those born between 1965 and 1980), including my parents who are Gen Xers.

CINDERS AND ASHES!!! On this day, 40 years ago on October 9, 1984, "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" Season 1 first aired in the UK. The series was based on The Railway Series by the Rev. W. Awdry. Season 1 was produced by Britt Allcroft and David Mitton, directed by David Mitton, the music was composed by Michael O'Donnell and Junior Campbell, and this season along with Season 2 was narrated by former Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr in the UK.
FIZZLING FIREBOXES!!! The entire series last for 36 years ending with Season 24 in early 2021 in a negative note, thanks to Mattel's horrible decision. No offense. The first 12 seasons are entirely in models and the last 12 seasons are fully CGI animation, but in Season 12, they used models, but the faces of vehicles, engines, and entirety of living things are CGI. The series also includes films like Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Calling All Engines, Hero of the Rails, etc.
