Is Pole Dancing Difficult to Learn?

Answering the question “is pole dancing hard to learn?” isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Pole dancing requires a certain level of fitness, agility, and flexibility – all of which you can build up over time. It’s just like getting into working out at the gym: the more you work out, the easier it will become!

That being said, if you have a background in any type of dancing, practice yoga or Pilates, or have been working out in the gym for some time, you may have an easier time learning how to pole dance. Luckily, all of the skills and muscles that you need to learn how to pole dance can be built through pole dancing classes and lots of practice!

Learning How to Pole Dance

If you’re interested in learning how to pole dance, it would be a good idea to start out with a few introductory classes. Beginner pole classes are specifically designed to incorporate strength training and flexibility. Once you start to get a good grip (literally!) on the basics of pole dancing, you can start to learn more complex moves like pole tricks.

You may find that you have been thinking pole dancing is more difficult to learn than it actually is! To learn how to pole dance, all you really need is an open mind, determination, and a beginner pole class with a great instructor.

Power Bar Fit BAR Level Pole Classes

We’re setting the BAR for you in Power Bar Fit’s BAR Level pole classes! Bar Level pole classes are a series of beginner pole dancing

BAR Level classes are taught by one of our professional, certified pole dancing instructors who remember what their first day was like. They’ll never ask you to do something that you’re uncomfortable with, or that they think you can’t do! Our pole dancing instructors will push you to reach your highest potential, but in a way that is safe and feels good.

Program-based pole dancing classes, like the BAR Level classes, are the best way for beginners to learn how to pole dance easily. If you want to learn pole dancing fast, and make it as easy as possible, you have to practice regularly!

Think of it this way: to build strength at a traditional gym, you have to lift weights on a regular basis, and increase the difficulty of your work out as you progress. Learning how to pole dance is exactly the same!

Preparing for Pole Dancing at Home

There are a few great options for poles that you can have installed at home, but it’s totally not necessary when you participate in program-based pole dancing classes. You’re more than welcome to participate even if you‘ve NEVER touched a pole before!

That being said, there are a few things you can do at home to get your mind and body ready if you’re a little bit nervous for your first pole dancing class.

• Complete a light workout (yoga or Pilates) every day
• Stretch every day
• Practice exercises that will strengthen your core
• Pick out a few outfits that are comfortable and you can move easily in (we recommend leggings and a tank top or t-shirt)

4 Reasons Why You’re Not Too Old For Pole Dancing

“You’re never too old to be young.”

Who says pole dancing is only for the young? Pole dancing at the age of 50 may seem strange, but why should it? It's just another exercise class, after all. Pole fitness is ideal for all ages, and learning how to pole dance should not be limited by one's age. And age is no excuse to stop being active!

Today, we are going to be looking at 4 specific reasons why pole dancing is for everyone and the benefits that come with it, no matter your age!

Fun Cardio

Pole dancing fitness is one of the most fun ways to burn calories, tone your muscles, and have lots of fun! Cardio activities are essential for fat loss, cholesterol reduction, and heart and blood pressure control. It's also something that the majority of people despise. It's tedious to spend 30 minutes on a treadmill or stationary bike many times a week. Pole dancing, on the other hand, is a lot of fun and exhilarating!

Easy to learn at any age

Pole dancing is something that doesn’t require previous experience! You can literally be a beginner at any stage in your life and still learn cool tricks and moves. Pole dancing takes a lot of practice and helps strengthen your entire body. So, if you’re a total beginner, that’s okay! You’ll get stronger every day and master moves in no time!

You’ll look and feel your best

Like we stated earlier, pole dancing is a great cardio exercise that helps strengthen, burn fat, and tone your whole body! Even at 40, you can rock lean and strong arms, legs, and core and feel better than you ever have before!

Body Confidence

Your body confidence and self-esteem don’t just go away with age. What better way to boost your confidence and positive body image than through pole dance fitness? After a few weeks of pole dancing, you’ll start to notice a change in your body and how much energy you have throughout the day. Your clothes will start to fit differently, your body will feel firmer and you’ll even want to wear different clothes that show off parts of your body that you never dreamed of showing before! Remember, if you can do something you once believed was impossible, you can do anything!

Here are 5 Reasons a Beginner Pole Dance Student Should Follow a Structured Pole Fitness Program | Power BAR Women's Fitness Pole Studios of Dallas Texas

1) It cuts down on the content of pole being so overwhelming. When you first start to learn pole dancing you have so many things to learn like pole grips, static vs spin pole, how to control momentum, what clothing to wear, coordination, strength training, muscle endurance.... and the list goes on... So, start in bite sized pieces and your progression will come faster.

2) It puts the pole tricks into perspective. You will understand what is truly a beginner pole dance move and what should be classified as advanced. You will not try to move ahead of what your body is currently conditioned for because you will have the knowledge of what may not be safe to attempt at your current level.

3) You will feel more accomplishment verses defeat. Feeling not good enough is a common emotion in pole dancing. The issue sometimes comes from those students who are mixed into higher level classes watching people who have already went through the learning curve. By being grouped with others who are on your "chrome - link" you will not be haunted by the thief of comparison as much.

4) It significantly reduces the risk of injury. When you take your time with learning how to pole you will not compromise your joints, muscles, bones, and overall body. You will have the proper conditioning and know how to be able to execute moves safely without taking lucky spins and hoping you nail the trick. Your control of movement will be there, and you can build off of your progress as you go along and your understanding of how to properly execute a trick because you can use cross references will help you a lot on the pole.

5) It keeps things interesting. Think of learning pole like dating. If you found out everything there is to know about a person the first night the spark would burn off pretty fast right? The same for pole - except you will not want to dump this date! Pole has a lifetime membership because there are so many different methodologies to learn. Floor Work, Chair, Tricks, Routines, Flexibility, and more. The choices are endless, especially when you take the time to enjoy the journey along the way.
