Hey everyone, I just wanted to hop on here and say thank you so much for 10k subscribers! It's such a lovely (and slightly surreal) feeling to know that so many of you are enjoying me (and Joli) waffling on about plants, and want to stick around for more π Thank you again for your support, I'm honestly sooooo grateful ππ

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this, but over the last -few weeks I've had quite a few messages on this subject, and received another DM this morning that made me think I should say something...
The message I got today was from someone saying that they've never had a pet before but since seeing Joli now really want to get a rescue dog. Joli's a huge part of my life (and channel) but I also just want to make it clear that she's definitely not always an easy dog π I'm not saying this to put a downer on things, I just feel like I need to put it out there, as you guys only ever see her in my videos, and I know how easy it can be to be swayed by cuteness (and she's a very cute gal FOR SURE).
Rescuing is a fantastic thing to do, and there are obviously so many dogs like Joli out there searching for loving homes, but if you're genuinely considering it you should be aware that you'll never fully know their past, and they very often come with baggage. A LOT of baggage!
I've grown up with rescues, and none of them have been a walk in the park (pardon the pun), but because of this I knew what I was getting into when Joli came into my life. All dogs are a massive commitment, but you have to be totally prepared for the fact that their adjustment period may be a lot longer - it can take months for them to settle in with you. Sometimes they may never completely settle due to past traumas. They could be aggressive or nervous with men/women/strangers/other dogs. They might not respond to conventional training and require a lot more work than other dogs. They might be unpredictable, or might never be able to be left alone. They come with a history that we will only ever know a teeny tiny bit about.
Joli is an absolute angel and I adore her, but she can be a very nervy girl. Change of any kind upsets her, so keeping things as calm and stable outside of her "safe spaces" is always important. She's often very scared of dogs she doesn't know, and can sometimes be slightly unpredictable with certain breeds. She can also be very nervous around new people that she hasn't had the chance to bond with yet.
I know that all sounds incredibly negative and I really don't mean it to - I just want to put this out there to offer a realistic view of what getting a rescue can be like for those who might seriously be considering it, as it's not always what it seems. My heart absolutely breaks when I hear stories of people adopting rescues, and later returning them again because they didn't know how much work it was going to be.
On a much more positive note, if you have the time and energy to be able to properly commit, and are aware that the journey may be bumpy at times, there is honestly nothing better than feeling you've been able to offer an animal a second chance at life. Joli brings so much joy to my days, cracks me up on a regular basis, and is just a wonderful, crazy bundle of energy!
Like I say with plants - just always do your research... And make sure not to over-water (oops wrong post)!

One year ago today I uploaded my very first YouTube video! I watch that video back now and laugh at how unbelievably nervous I looked, and feel really proud of how far I've come since then. Over this last year I've found SUCHHHH a love for making these planty videos, sharing my passion and connecting with so many lovely people in the process.
Thank you so much to all of you crazy plant people that have come along for the ride so far and enjoy watching me (and Joli) each week - we're super grateful and soooo excited to continue this journey.
