Do you love Samegawa in black?
I coated it with Urushi (Japanese lacquer) in order to match it to my Tsuka.
Which color combination is in your mind if you are going to make a Tsuka?

Thanks to Masaya Swordsmith who is willing to tailor make the Tamahagane plate for me!
Ps. I visited his place back in 2020 for Katana making experience. It was a great experience and I highly recommend this to be part of your itinerary if you visit Japan :)

Finally, I wrapped the wooden tsuka with ray skin. There are mainly three ways of wrapping, and this method provides the best reinforcement.
The next step is to file and clean the ray skin and then coat it with black Urushi!

-----Recent questions-----
"I'm still unsure about how to handle coloring on steel and copper items.
Should I protect each metal during the coloring process of the other? Any tips would be appreciated! π€π‘"
Without any protection, the other metal is getting dirt.... which is hard to rub off.

-----Happenings------
Check this out! Blue crystals started forming in the secret liquid I used to create rust on the steel huchigane!
I left it on my desk for a while, and to my surprise, it turned blue. But don't worry, this is just a precipitate from one of the ingredients in the solution.
