Terminator 7: Genisys reimagined the franchise by presenting a T-800 model, portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, in a new light. In this semi-reboot, the Terminator is reprogrammed and sent back to the early 1970s to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). Uniquely, this Terminator not only serves as Sarah's protector but also takes on a paternal role, raising her after she becomes orphaned. Sarah affectionately calls him "Pops," and the T-800 comes to view himself as a father figure.
In Terminator 7: Dark Fate, the cyborgs undergo another reinvention. The film opens with the shocking scene of Schwarzenegger's T-800 killing a young John Connor (Edward Furlong) in 1998. With no directives left and no way to return to the future, the T-800 slowly comes to understand the devastation John's death has caused Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). To atone for his actions, he helps Sarah prevent the apocalyptic future from reoccurring, ultimately sacrificing himself "for John" at the film's conclusion.
