The end of a tiring but really fun two days operating at Making Tracks in Chester. Thanks to the railnuts team for being as welcoming as always and it was great to chat to more viewers of the channel. Next stop Andover this Saturday and a very different layout to operate.

I was asked a question about how to tell the older batch of Dapol Class 73s from the newer ones. There are differences in product codes and running numbers but it also appears there are some other ways of telling them apart. The images illustrate the most obvious differences I found. The newer batch appear to have a larger product sticker and the box is ever so slightly bigger. If you have a BR blue version then the blue and yellow are both the wrong colour on the older batch. But the most reliable way appears to be looking at the circuit board, the newer ones have some switches for adjusting the lighting (newer one is at the top). This PCB and other components, like body fixing screws, have changed between batches. However, Dapol haven't bothered to update the supplied parts diagram to reflect this. So be careful if ordering spares!

An amazing day playing trains at the NEC today. A real privilege to be operating the Making Tracks layout and huge congrats to Pete and the whole Railnuts team on their world record! And it was great to chat railway modelling with Jonathan Newton of @hornbymag and to say hi to @NewJunction and @ChadwickModelRailway. It was also amazing to talk to so many people who watch the channel and apologies that I didn't get to chat as much as I wanted to. The support you give me and the channel means a lot, so thank you!

Went to Ally Pally needing downpipes, came back with none but plenty of other goodies. Was great to chat with so many people who watch the channel, to meet @ThatModelRailwayGuy and to catch up with @UndergroundEric and @NewJunction. A really enjoyable show and thanks to Matt for encouraging me to go along.

Lovely to meet @Mattslade6024 from Jubilee Road and lots of other folks at the Basingstoke show today. Great mix of layouts and traders and managed to pick up a few bits for the layout that you'll be seeing soon. Thanks to Paul for a behind the scenes look at Much Murkle and to @alanmonk7717 for another enlightening chat about the railways around Reading.
