abdul Rahim Sarban, known simply as Sarban, was born in 1929 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Sarban's extraordinary voice and distinctive musical style set him apart as one of Afghanistan's most cherished artists, a legacy that has endured through generations.
Sarban began his music career in 1952, under the mentorship of Ustad Farukh Afandi. His first song, "Ta Ba Kai Ay Mahleqa quickly gained popularity, establishing him as a significant figure in Afghan music. Sarban's ability to blend traditional Afghan melodies with his unique vocal interpretations created a sound that was both timeless and unmatched by any other singer in the region.
One of Sarban's most notable contributions to Afghan culture was putting lyrics to the "Ahesta Bero" anthem, a song traditionally played for brides on their wedding day. His influence extended beyond Afghan borders; even the famous British Muslim singer, Sami Yusuf, was inspired by Sarban's work, notably drawing from Sarban's song "Biaka Beraim Bamazar."
