I hit my anniversary of 5 years living alcohol free.⁣

I didn't have any big, fancy celebrations.
I really didn't even think about it that much. ⁣

I mean, I always do a ceremonial post for the anniversary date (usually on the exact day itself), but I've been busy.⁣

And even though on the surface the number "5" seems like a big milestone, this lifestyle has become so ingrained in my state of BEING that it's not anything I need to try to do or force.⁣

That's been the ultimate lesson for me in the process of removing alcohol from my life, and is the model for anything I want to change.⁣

What I've realized:⁣

👉 Any significant transformation in myself is most effectively done with intentionality at the identity level 👈⁣

Meaning, when I finally quit, I wasn't "trying to quit" alcohol. I firmly made the decision that "I don't drink."⁣

This meant that in order to drink, I would be out of integrity and alignment with my identity, which is a pretty strong boundary for me to break.⁣

There's a lot of nuance in language and how we can use it to alter our belief systems, and it's profound how simple one alteration of a statement can mean so much to how we view ourselves.⁣

As I continue down my path of personal/spiritual/relational development, I'm intrigued by how I can continue to use identity shifts to break generational patterns, heal myself, and help others.⁣

Here's to 5 years, friends. From Mexico con mucho amor🙏 🇲🇽⁣

It feels like everyday I see a new clickbait-y headline in the news saying: "remote work is dead." With the huge economic downturn, layoffs happening every week and organizations calling their employees back to the office...

It’s hard to get to the TRUTH about remote work.

So I flew all the way to Lisbon Portugal to emcee the largest remote work conference in the world, Running Remote (runningremote.com/) and I asked CEOs and remote leaders their thoughts the question everyone is asking:

"Is Remote Work Dead?"

What I found out might surprise you!

Every year around this time, we celebrate the life of a friend who was taken from this Earth far too soon.⁣

Every year around this time, the #DOT memorial has become a wonderful reunion with friends, Danny's family, and new connections.⁣

Every year around this time, I feel grateful for the time to reflect, process grief, and also have a reminder to tell people that mean the most that I love them.⁣

We have far less time here than we think. ⁣

Do the things you want to do.⁣
Say the things you need to say.⁣
Be the person you know you must be.⁣

Much love, Danny, we miss you beyond words.⁣

Life Updates + Relationship Reflections + Photo Dump:⁣

I moved in with Eliza. ⁣

She brought Chandra, her loving albino pitbull she took in from the streets here in Mexico a few years ago, (dog dad lyfe). After those first 2 months in a different Airbnb, we signed a long term lease at a new place. ⁣

It's a couple blocks from the beach with (2) beautiful terrace(s), plenty of space for Chandra (and us), and even a jacuzzi and brick oven (🍕!)⁣

After I received my breathwork certification in June we also made it a goal of ours to host events together, both online and in person to help others heal.

Her commitment to this mission, and way of showing up for people by providing a beautiful and embodied feminine presence is nothing short of transformational.

I never imagined a relationship with someone where I could pursue something greater than myself in reflection of the relationship.⁣

I just didn't know it existed.⁣

I also never thought I'd live with a partner (crazy to say that out loud)...⁣

This is my FIRST time living with a significant other, and I feel like I've already gone through a million initiations in the process. ⁣

As someone who's grown up with avoidant tendencies, it always felt like sharing space with a significant other would come at a sacrifice. That I would feel resentful of not having my own space. That it would be too much.⁣

It's been far from perfect... it has opened up new challenges in our relationship, caused numerous triggers, and unearthed dozens of unconscious patterns... ⁣

BUT, the entire experience has been opposite of what I felt it would be.⁣

It hasn't been a sacrifice. It's been a deep and needed mirror for me. It's been a calling to my true being. And, our relationship has gotten stronger, and I feel like I'm actually on a *team* now.⁣

Co-habitation in a conscious relationship gets to be a healing modality. It gets to be a growth opportunity. It gets to be a container to safely rupture and repair stronger than ever before.⁣

Super grateful to be building this cool thing with my love, and also getting to share it with the world. That's all for now.

ChatGPT and artificial intelligence will change the way you prepare for job interviews, forever. No longer will you sputter to come up with the best answers for questions, no longer will research take days, and no longer will you be grasping for some way to articulate yourself for that tough question you've never answered correctly.

Lately I've been feeling guilty that I haven't shown up in my friendships as deeply as I'd like.

Usually I'm great at keeping up with people, organizing dinners, going to networking events, and making social time a priority.

As an extrovert, it's very nourishing to me, but, I just haven't felt the capacity.

My current priorities are personal health, building a deep and beautiful romantic relationship with my girlfriend, and pursuing my purpose in my many career ambitions (remote job coaching, media/content production, marketing consulting, breathwork facilitation, speaking, the list goes on...)

The first thing to go has been social events and friend time.

And, the lesson from this that's really alive for me right now:

The quest to keep all aspects of life in perfect harmony is an illusion; life is a series of compromises.

And it got me thinking a concept I learned from James Clear a few years back. It's called the "Four Burners Theory."

Imagine that your life is represented by a stove with four burners on it. Each burner symbolizes one major quadrant of your life.

1. The first burner represents your family.
2. The second burner is your friends.
3. The third burner is your health.
4. The fourth burner is your work.

The theory says that “in order to be successful you have to cut off one of your burners. And in order to be really successful you have to cut off two.”

Hearing it feels harsh to me.

It's like having to cut aspects of my life is conceding defeat.

On the other hand, when pursuing excellence in one domain of life, the reality is: others get neglected.

Luckily, Clear also gives a framework for overcoming with 3 different options:

Option 1: Delegating Responsibilities
For me this looks like hiring a cook for all of our meal prep each week and someone to clean the apartment.

Option 2: Maximizing Efficiency Within Constraints
For me this looks like calendarizing (not sure if that's a word) everything and setting boundaries with my time for each piece of it. Yes, that means scheduling not only work stuff but dates, lunch breaks, and down time.

Option 3: Segmenting Life into Phases
For me that means ACCEPTANCE that this season of my life is a phase dedicated to career development, the foundation of my relationship, and it's ok that I'm less present for friends, it's not permanent.

I'm experientially learning a lot from this time of my life.

I feel like it's a quantum leap in my perspectives and how I'm showing up in the world. I'm curious for you -- what works when juggling the "burners" in your life? What are you currently focused on?
