This channel is here to help other van builders create lighter van conversions. I am taking my passion for designing ultralight backpacking gear and applying it to building out an ultralight van.
Our van must fit into our garage and have a fixed bed, a toilet, a recirculating shower, solar, an all-electric build, and seating for two grandkids. We chose a low-roof 136" WB ProMaster that presents many challenges. I am trying new ideas to achieve lighter weight and smaller size. Some ideas will work and some might fail but through experimentation and creativity I hope to achieve a van that is lighter and meets all our unique requirements.
Five Pound Pete is the trail name given to me by fellow backpackers during my Boulder to Durango thru-hike. Five pounds was the base weight of my backpack (excluding food, water & fuel). I designed and made most of the gear to get to that extraordinarily light pack weight. If you are interest in seeing what I made visit www.fivepoundpete.com/
