Dr. Manasmita Das, an interdisciplinary biomedical scientist, educationist and science communicator has been learning and practicing Indian Classical Music for almost two decades. Introduced to music by her parents, Manasmita started receiving formal musical lessons under the tutelage of Dhrupad maestro, Late Shree. Sudhir Datta from the tender age of three. In 1999, she received her Sangeet Visharad in Hindusthani Classical Music from Pracheen Kala Kendra (Chandigarh). After 15 years of rigorous talim in Dhrupad music, she started learning Khayal under the tutelage of Late Shree Gorachand Mallick. Since 2017, she has been continuing her musical education, focused on Khayal music, under the able guidance of Shree. Deborshee Bhattacharjee. Manasmita has staged solo Dhrupad and Khayal recitals in many concerts within both India and the United States. While working at UNC-Chapel Hill, she also served as a volunteer artist for DooR to DooR â a healing arts program of UNC hospital (US).
