Md Haroon, an RTI activist in his early 50s, was stabbed to death by unidentified criminals near Jokaha village in Manuapul police station on Tuesday night. Haroon's killing has sent shockwaves in the district.

Earlier, some local people attacked him and his leg was fractured because he was seeking information about irregularities in welfare schemes from the local administration.

The INDIA alliance lacks the momentum it requires because the BJP seems to understand where the potential for an effective counter-narrative exists. The BJP not only crushes the momentum of narratives but follows up with deviation and setting up red herrings. What this does is protect Modi’s Teflon-coated image. It does not allow people to think clearly about what the opposition is saying. Nor does it allow the infallible image of Modi to slip.

किसी एक जीत में एक कारण नहीं होता, और न किसी हार के पीछे एक कारण। इसके पीछे कई कारण या फैक्टर होते हैं। तीन राज्यों में भाजपा की बड़ी जीत के पीछे भी कई कारण, कई फैक्टर हैं। उनमें से एक बेशक मोदी मैजिक यानी मोदी जी का करिश्मा भी है या हो सकता है। लेकिन इसी के साथ देशभर में फैली महंगाई, बेरोज़गारी, भ्रष्टाचार और सांप्रदायिकता भी एक हक़ीक़त है जिसे झुठलाया नहीं जा सकता। हालांकि चुनावी जीत से इसे ढंकने की लगातार कोशिश की जाती है।

In many instances, names of deceased voters have been included in the list, and despite flagging the matter, the Election Commission staff has not been proactive in removing them, they said. The onus often falls on individuals to produce a death certificate, rather than the Election Commission taking the initiative to approach the appropriate authorities for deletion of names.
