Sitting Bull (1831-1890) was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader who resisted U.S. encroachment on Native lands. He played a prominent role in the 1876 Battle of Little Bighorn, where his forces defeated General Custer. Later, he surrendered and toured with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. He was killed during an arrest attempt in 1890.
