Few actors rise to mega-fame as quickly as Goldie Hawn. What was it about her that captivated audiences so thoroughly? Why might Academy voters have been excited to vote for performance in Cactus Flower? In this video I hope to find out... watch video on watch page

ICYMI: My latest video covers "Liz and Dick," a Lifetime Original Movie referred to in The Guardian as the "first movie to be explicitly marketed around the disastrous life of its own star, making it an indictment of contemporary celebrity as funny as it is upsetting.ā I take a look at why it was made, what it promised to do for Lindsay Lohan, how it frames Elizabeth Taylor, and how it holds up under scrutiny. watch video on watch page

I recently spoke with Dr. Josephine Botting, curator at the BFI, about Alma RevilleāAlfred Hitchcock's partner in life and filmmaking. It was absolutely fascinating to hear about the ways in which Reville and Hitchcock came up together in the British film industry and how she ultimately influenced his work. You can listen to our conversation for free now on my Patreon!
A big thank you to the folks at Hippfest, Scotlandās first and only festival of silent film with live music, for connecting us!

MY LATEST: What did Hitchcock see in āblondenessā that made this aesthetic a desirable feature for his leading ladies? If by limiting his brunettes to supporting roles, did he, by default, also create an archetype for them?

Hello everyone!
I'd like to share an interview I conducted with Alexandra Seros, author of Ida Lupino, Forgotten Auteur:
From Film Noir to the Director's Chair. Her book provides a fascinating overview of Lupinoās independently directed films and discusses such subjects as gendered labor in the film industry, the rise of consumerism in the United States after World War II, and the expectations put on women in their family lives during the postwar era. It's a wonderful book, and I hope you consider picking up a copy!
