From Mawlana Rumi's Arabic poems
قد صبّحنا الله بعيشٍ ومدام
قد عيّدنا الله وما تمّ صيام
املأ قدحًا وهات يا خير غلام
كي يسكرنا ثُمَّ على الدهر سلام
God granted us bread and wine
and another Eid, though the Fast remains
Fill the cup and bring it here, O kind youth
So as to intoxicate us
Then, O world, farewell
Rumi reminds us that the Fasting of the soul, or the soul of Fasting - that is cleansing our hearts of all but the Beloved - does not end with Eid, but continues beyond Eid, in both day and night, until we meet God.
May our hearts revel in the delights of the greatest iftâr, the most joyous Eid, that is the loving embrace of the Most Compassionate.

Today, may the sight of Your Beauty be blessed!
May the new longing that envelops our soul be blessed!
When roses bloom, they bring joy to the world;
O you who are as joyful as a hundred roses, may your laughter be blessed!
Upon seeing your Face, the beautiful ones stumble
May the heart that stumbles at the doorstep of your house be blessed!
I see Nowruz in your face, and weep with joy
May Nowruz and my tears that fall like rain be blessed!
Without a word from your lips, without speech or sign
May the ear that hears the whispers from your depth be blessed!

امروز جمال تو بر دیده مبارک باد
بر ما هوس تازه پیچیده مبارک باد
گل‌ها چون میان بندد بر جمله جهان خندد
ای پرگل و صد چون گل خندیده مبارک باد
خوبان چو رخت دیده افتاده و لغزیده
دل بر در این خانه لغزیده مبارک باد
نوروز رخت دیدم خوش اشک بباریدم
نوروز و چنین باران باریده مبارک باد
بی گفت زبان تو بی‌حرف و بیان تو
از باطن تو گوشت بشنیده مبارک باد

Every night when we set the tables
We find our fast broken by Your Image
Your grace breaks fasts as if by decree,
Like Jesus bringing sustenance from Heaven.
The food of the heart comes from the kitchen of your love,
One must dive into the middle of this feast!
From that fire of the heart comes the water of life,
Let us burn joyously on the heart’s fire, like incense.

ما را ز خیال تو بود روزه گشادن
ای لطف تو را قاعده بر روزه‌گشایان

ما را هم ازان آتش دل آب حیاتست

My heart has no sweet songs to sing
For it is full of grief for Palestine
I cry blood with every tear
I am entranced by Palestine
If you see me laugh and smile
Know that my joy hides many pains
Like the wine-cup, I keep the blood inside
I am from the vineyards of Palestine
The martyr's shrouds are cleaner with blood
In that sacred blood, I must bathe my body
Only then will I be truly pure
Like the serene soul of Palestine
Why am I in blood, and yet joyful?
In chains, and yet free?
I am not a willow, I am not wind
I am the people of Palestine
This world is fleeting, God is Everlasting
Nothing remains but the sweet pains of love
I have no love for this lower world
I am in the skies of Palestine
Though I am in a well, like Joseph
I can see the Heavens above me
and my heart, like the eyes of Jacob
is shedding tears for Palestine
I am like the shirt of Joseph
Smeared with blood, by deceitful brethren
Torn by the tongues of evil slander
Like my heart, which is torn for Palestine
Where is the shirt of peace and fairness
Which restored the sight of Jacob?
When will the fish of the ponds
Return to the ocean, to Palestine?

Happy new year, everyone.
AlhamduliLlah. Rumi’s Circle has officially begun.
In Rumi’s Circle, we will meet regularly to study the teachings and words of wisdom by Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi.
Our aims are as follows:
1. Studying Mawlana Rumi’s reliable poems and writings.
2. Examining existing translations (in case of previously-translated poems) and comparing them to the original Persian.
3. Translating untranslated poems and writings of Rumi (e.g., most of the poems of the divan); our goal is to provide translations that are accurate, elegant and easy enough for the general reader to understand (but not any simpler!!)
4. Attempting to comprehend Rumi in the context in which he produced his poems.
Several of Rumi's poems contain references to the Quran, hadith, events in Persian history, or other works in the Sufi literature.
To understand other poems, it is necessary to be familiar with events in Rumi’s life, why/when these poems were written, and who they were written for.
5. Discussing what we may learn from Rumi’s words and how can they can inform and transform our lives "here and now".
This is a place to meet others who share your interest in deep connections through spiritual wisdom poetry.
