Generative AI-SynBio for Carbon-Positive Building and Infrastructure Design Studio at FIU, PI Prof. Thomas Spiegelhalter, PhD
This research studio creates climate-resilient, adaptive built environments in extreme climate zones. Under the supervision of PI Prof. Dr. Thomas Spiegelhalter, the researchers, graduate students and doctorates focus on AI-ML assisted carbon-positive data-driven scenario tools for integrated decision-making using the Urban Laboratory Living Lab approach.
This involves identifying real-world data and mapping baselines for green-blue infrastructure needs, developing the tools and frameworks in digital twin models, and testing data-driven models using different carbon-positive scenarios from 2018 (baseline) to 2100. The research scenarios employ generative AI-SynBio methods across scales and policy questions. By utilizing off-the-grid bio-inspired design methods, the research focuses on working with global research venues, communities, and municipalities.
