Consisting of six trombones and a full rhythm section, Slide Fx Jazz Trombone Ensemble was formed in 1983 as a vehicle for top-tier Southern California trombonists to showcase their ensemble performance, improvisational, and arranging talents. Slide Fx is led by bass trombonist John Campanella and co-led by tenor trombonist John Ward.
Slide Fx’ repertoire spans styles from John Coltrane’s “Impressions” to Holland-Dozier-Holland’s “How Sweet It Is (to be Loved by You)”.
Slide Fx’ club appearances include the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. Other appearances include the Playboy Jazz Festival in Old Pasadena Park, the International Association of Jazz Educators conference (Long Beach), and the International Trombone Workshop (Las Vegas) where Slide Fx received the coveted Kai Winding Award for best Jazz Trombone Group.
