VIEWERS BIKE *1964 TERRA COTTA VARISTY SPORT
Here is Rick's latest find, a very sweet 1964 Varsity example in the rare Terra Cotta Red . Great job Rick👍🔧🚲🏆
Well I took it down to the frame . I worked on it everyday for at least 5 hour per day from the day I received it.
The crank was removed and disassembled soaked in Evaporust cleaned and greased the bearings.
Soaked the chain in Vapored-o-rust.
Removed the pedals disassemble soaked in vapored-o-rust , cleaned and greased the bearings.
While removing the headset I found the bottom fork race had some play around the fork tube as if it was the wrong race.
I found and bought a races from eBay , wrong race. Then I thought about buying a from with a race but that didn’t work out either so
I bought a 1973 varsity frame for the race . I replaced the headset cage bearings for single bearings . I think 5/32 on top and 3/16 on the bottom buying them from eBay.
The bike had a set of off the wall brakes (race brand ) so I found a set of Type 730 brakes from eBay. Disassembled them, cleaned and polished the brakes.
While disassembling the freewheel I found that someone damaged lock ring bearing race to remove it.
Once removing the gears I cleaned, greased and installed the replacement identical lock ring race that I had.
The bike had the original quick release red dot brake levers I disassembled , cleaned and polished then. Removed all cables soaked in Evaporust & oiled along with cleaning the outer cable housing.
The previous owner had sanded the s6 wheels maybe to remove rust so I soaked the wheels in Evaporust and polished them for days . Then , worked out the hop and wobbles , repacked the bearings.
The front derailleur has an odd screw which I have never found the thread pitch to it so I bought and set of derailleurs front and rear off eBay just for this one bolt.
The early front derailleur had a different bolt than the later ones . The front will need to say sprint patented on it to get this smaller bolt.
The rear derailleur was cleaned and the rollers were greased.
The brooks ( Schwinn) saddle was there but very dry rotted so It needs a brooks saddle. I replaced the gum wall ( old school ) tires with a set of Continentals.
So that's about it and Thank you very much for your approval .

NEXT PROJECT VOTED BY VIEWERS👍🚲1969 ORANGE KRATE BUILD
So I purchased this frame and chainguard on eBay from a woman who's brother had passed away from natural causes. I reached out and promised the woman I would finish what her brother had started and the search for parts began. I already had a few parts like the wheelset, 68-70 Bow Pedals, Triple bend stick shift, rear brake springer fork, banana seat, sissybar with shocks and rear derailure and kick stand. In the last few days, I spent another fortune on rear and front fenders, handlebar, goose neck stem and the Mag crankset, all stamped 1969. I will get started in a few days and hope the Kool Orange 1969 Krate can roll as a complete bike once again👍🔧🔥

VIEWERS BIKE - Here is a sweet example of an April 1977 Sky Blue Varsity, all original, including the very cool Sky Blue Translucent bar tape and dealer sold Schwinn Speedometer. The cables and paint look very clean and Marc did a great job detailing the bike to look like new, thanks for sharing Marc👍🚲🔥🏆
" Anyway, not much to say about it, It's an April 1977 Varsity, all I did was clean it up, polish the chrome and change the rock hard tires. I'm just gonna have fun with it and ride it this spring."
Talk to you later,
Marc

Built ,designed and equipped like a Schwinn Approved Le Tour, I'm sure the dealer price in 1976 was about the same for both models here is the link to the 1976 Schwinn catalog, you will also see the Super Le Tour which was a higher end model featuring a chromoly frame and alloy rims with a nice Shimano group set weighed around 26 lbs. compared to the 31 lbs. 1020 steel frame steel rims Le Tour. bikehistory.org/catalogs/1976.html#approved-le-tou… watch video on watch page

I finally decided to take that flamingo Sierra to my local bike shop to have Bob do the work. I brought the flamingo Suburban as well, for him to swap out the cruiser bars for the drop-style. The scope of work was beyond me.
The bike shop guy cannibalized the flamingo Suburban for the tires and some other bits and pieces. I stopped in today and the bike looks so good. The tires, bars and rear rack, the brake levers and a few other parts were taken from the Suburban. It rides so well.
A very nice example of the Schwinn Sierra in a highly collectible color Thanks for Sharing Rita! 👍🚲
