On 4rd March 2024, an FIR was lodged at Peren P.S by the President of Hill Area Youth Organisation Peren, Nagaland against one YouTuber Jonah Rangkau for uploading approximately 1000 videos in his YouTube account namely “God’s messenger”. The gist of FIR states that, the accused Jonah Rangkau has uploaded hate comments against many individual and groups by using derogatory words with the intention to defame, intimidate and harass them. His videos has reportedly traumatised many people. The comments of accused includes hate speech against various Naga communities and organisations which may escalate and lead to breach of peace among Zeliang community and other Naga tribes living within and outside the State unless he is immediately arrested and prevented from uploading videos in his YouTube channel. As such, the complainant filed an FIR at Peren PS to initiate immediate and appropriate action against the accused so that, the good image of Zeliang community is not tarnished.
Accordingly, the FIR was registered vide Peren PS case No.0002/2024 U/S 84B/84C ITAA R/W section 500/505/506//507 IPC on 5th March 2024 and endorsed to Shri, Atu Zumvü, SDPO Peren for further investigation.
Thereafter, the I.O of the case made an action plan and proceeded to Delhi on 12th March 2024 and on arrival at Delhi reported before the Joint Commissioner of Police (SPUNER)and after explaining the gravity of case and getting assistance from them started to trace the accused Jonah Rangkau with the help of LBS provided by Cyber PS Kohima. The joint efforts of Delhi police and Nagaland police continued till the accused was finally located and arrested from Parliament Street New Delhi on 13/03/2024 at around 7:53 PM.
The accused was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House Court on 14/03/2024 for obtaining transit remand and thereafter NOC/Permit was also obtained from the BCAS, New Delhi to bring down the accused from Delhi to Dimapur by flight on 15/03/2024.
Accordingly, the above referred accused was accordingly brought down to Dimapur by Indigo flight No. 6E-2625 and taken further to Peren. He was produced before the CJM Peren on 16/03/2024 and remanded into 7 days police custody for conducting further investigation.
