About
Native New Yorker, Russell Manning was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent his formative years studying under jazz bass legends Buster Williams, Eddie Gomez, and Leon Dorsey. After touring the world playing bass with various bands including Twin Shadow, Russell wanted to find new inspiration and hone his songwriting skills, so he moved to Los Angeles - as did his longtime songwriting and lyrical partner Rico Martinez. While various drummers come on board certain tracks to add live drum parts. Rush Midnight is known for its melodic funk bass lines, dreamy synths, moody hooks and Russell Manning’s signature sensual vocals. As the Guardian once wrote: "Manning has been described as a "smooth music provocateur"
