Trying out a completely new format with my most recent video. In it I break down the mistakes my friend made in some of his competitions.

If you want me to give you advice on your rolling/competition footage, join Jiu Jitsu Lab: www.skool.com/jiujitsu

In there, I do 3 calls a week where I break down member's rolling/competition footage. You can also post your footage in the forum for advice.

6 Tips to get injured less doing Jiu Jitsu

Not getting injured in Jiu Jitsu is a skill in it of itself, here’s how to get better at it:

1. Avoid larger spazzy people. Larger people who make explosive, uncontrolled movements can easily injure you unintentionally. Avoid these rolls.

2. Don’t wrestle with much larger people. Wrestling is more dangerous than when you’re on the ground, combining that with someone larger is a recipe for disaster.

3. Don’t explosively turn out of leg locking positions unless you know what you’re doing. I injured my knee like this, and I know a lot of other people who have as well.

4. Warm up before you roll. Don’t go hard when your body isn’t warm yet.

5. Tap early. Leave your ego at the door, it’s never worth risking an injury to escape a deep submission.

6. Don’t base out with your arm when you get taken down. This can lead to some really bad arm injuries.

How to get better at BJJ when you’re the worst person at your gym:

In a recent video, I told people that when they learn a new move they should first try to hit it on someone worse than them, then attempt to hit it on better and better people.

But a common comment I got a lot was “But I’m the worst person at my gym.”

When this is the case, I always recommend working concepts.

Moves are step-by-step motions while concepts are rules that apply to Jiu Jitsu.

One concept that changed my Jiu Jitsu was knowing that when you’re moving it’s easier to be off-balanced. (See image below)

Aka an object in motion stays in motion.

The bottom person can use your momentum against you. So when someone has good grips on you, don’t just jump around. Stay sturdy and fight their grips.

This is something you can work on even if you’re new to the sport. And once you get good at this, you won’t be getting swept as much and you’ll be able to work all of those guard passes you’ve been learning.

I do weekly calls where I break down your rolls/matches and I’m posting entire instructionals on there every month.

My “7 Tips to Get Better at Jiu Jitsu” video got taken down because of a 3-second clip of someone performing a drill.

It's pretty sad because that video was getting a lot of positive comments about people being helped.

The claimant said they removed it because I portrayed what they were doing as mindless drilling. Even though I never said anything about mindless drilling in the video...

I posted a new video yesterday so it would mean a lot if you guys gave that one a like.

I released my instructional/roll review website yesterday as well, so check that out if you want help getting better at BJJ faster: www.skool.com/jiujitsu

I think the Jiu Jitsu instructional space needs a revamp.

Instructionals cost a ton of money and only cover a few areas of Jiu Jitsu, meaning to get good at every position you have to buy a lot of them.

Also, they're often padded to market the idea of "8 hours of information!" wasting time for the viewer.

Additionally, they don't come with any support. If something you learned isn't working for you, you have to figure it out yourself.

I personally can attribute a ton of success to instructionals, so don't get me wrong, they can 100% fast-track your progression. But I think they could be handled better.

Introducing Jiu Jitsu Lab

It's an online service where I'll be posting everything I know about Jiu Jitsu, and doing live calls where I can break down your rolling/competition footage, as well as answer any questions.

I already have 3 full instructionals made that will be on there and I currently have more in the works.

The instructionals themselves are tightly edited to not waste your time.

Been working on this for the last few months. It's something that really would have helped me when I first started Jiu Jitsu, so I'm excited to release it! You'll hear more about it soon!

Just reached 80k Subs, just wanted to thank all you guys!

When I first started my channel I never expected it to get this big. And recently I’ve decided to put more time into making videos and I’m going to be putting one out every week.

If you want to be in my next video upload a video of you rolling or competing to YouTube (can be unlisted) and put your belt level in the description. Then send it to me at JoshRichBJJ@gmail.com, or put it in the comments. I’m making a video where I try to guess my subscriber’s belt level.

Thanks for all the support!
