Atrika Dance Company was form in 1994 in-house in Kolam Ayer CC. In Atrika we have developed a uniquely Singaporean approach to the traditional Malay danceform just like our society. We embrace it & instill a Singaporean heart & soul, without diluting it's essence & message.
Post traditonal Danceform is a fusion of sort. It's a creation at the midpoint between Traditional & Contemporary dance movement. Which itself reflects the Singaporean society. Eastern values with Western aspirations.
The very first Post Traditional Danceform was unveiled in 1991 Festival of Asian Performings Arts performed by the cream of the Singapore Malay dancers. The name of the dancework is " Jelingan Manja" - conceptualise & choreograph by Ms Mazlina Buang.
The birth of Atrika was not a plain sailing. But believing in her concept & style, her persistance with a large dosage of humility, Atrika & the danceform of Post Traditional was accepted in Kolam Ayer Cc at their showcase in 1994.
