I'll be back at Open Sauce this year! If you have something cool to show off, or need some motivation to finish that project, exhibitors get free admission plus an invite to the creator party on Friday night. I met so many cool people! opensauce.com/exhibit-application/
We're growing! I'm hiring a full-time writer/producer to help with Practical Engineering and some unannounced projects.
Know someone who might fit the role? Please share!
Is it you? Apply here: forms.gle/mbu34kY9LyML9Jos8
So it begins… Books are in the warehouse and preorders will begin shipping this week! I have roughly four days straight of signing copies. #EngineeringInPlainSight
Doing a little research: Is there an equipment cabinet or control panel that has you burning with curiosity about what's inside? Share a photo, link, or description of the equipment enclosures that captivate your curiosity. (And if you have inside knowledge, I may want to chat!)
In a previous video, I collaborated with Dan Shiffman @TheCodingTrain to create a Horizontal Directional Drilling simulator (in the spirit of silly sims like EuroTruck or Goat Simulator). The project is open source, and a few people have been working really hard to add features to the game. It has been so exciting to watch it develop into a really fun little simulator. You can play the current version here: al-digital.no/Directional-Boring/
And if you write code recreationally, feel free to contribute to the project here: github.com/CodingTrain/Directional-Boring
I didn't mention in the book announcement video, but I also created some t-shirts of my favorite ✨innocuous parts of the constructed environment✨. I love the art so much! We start shipping at the end of the month (store.practical.engineering).
Check out the latest video on coastal erosion, and submit your questions for next week's livestream in the comments below. Looking forward to it!
My friend and collaborator, Ralph Crewe, is finally making his own videos on YouTube. Jocular coverage of miscellaneous science topics. Check it out!
Practical Engineering is all about infrastructure and the human-made world around us. It is hosted, written, and produced by civil engineer, Grady Hillhouse. We have new videos posted every first and third Tuesday, so please subscribe for updates.
