Since a lot of people asked, here’s how to make the spinning icons I frequently use.
1. Grab an image you want to use. Remove the background, if applicable. I primarily use old windows icons, but you can achieve this effect with mostly anything.
2. Turn the image into a 3D layer. Most editing apps have this as an in-house effect. But, in case there isn’t one, you can always pirate a plug-in that does so.
3. Manipulate the Y-axis to make it spin horizontally, and the X-axis to make it spin vertically. Use key frames and ease graphs to make the process smoother. Positive axis values (for example, 400) will make the object spin clockwise. Negative axis values (think -400) will make it spin counterclockwise.
4. Finally, add a pixelated effect onto the object. This will give it that retro video game item look.
5. If you want to, add a shadow effect that will give the object more depth.
That’s all there is to it. I’ll eventually make a visual tutorial for my editing, once I get the time.

I’m coming back home from vacation soon, which means I’ll finally return to making long form videos (Instead of the parody videos I’ve been making for fun). Which would you rather see a long form video on?
