Are you ready for Daylight Savings Time?

With the time shift to an hour ahead on March 10, you may feel overly tired or out of sync. That's a result of a change in your circadian rhythm, which is the 24-cycle that affects natural processes to help organisms, including humans, cope with the regular shift from day to night. Hear EMSL user Jennifer Hurley explain more about circadian rhythm.

Read about Hurley's project in which she is working to identify the times of day that filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa makes cellulase. Cellulase could help maximize the manufacturing of biofuel components: bit.ly/3Mz2CmB

What happens to orchards when they’ve reached the end of their lifespan and are no longer producing crops? Conventionally, orchards are burned. However, concerns about biomass burning and air quality have led to an alternative practice known as whole orchard recycling.

Hear microbiologist Amisha Poret-Peterson on EMSL's Bonding Over Science podcast as she talks about using nuclear magnetic resonance at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory to learn about the role and efficiency of microbial nitrogen in soils in in whole orchard recycling.
