Since a few days YouTube wants to push very odd live streams on me. Some with nudity, but also a lot of war / imigration polarizing news type streams, as well as some random seemingly e-sports streams from a far east (south Korea maybe) country. Very odd. Is it just for me or has their AI gone insane?

Are ESL R1 buying stream views? I think so. So I'm browsing YouTube, see ESL R1 with 60 live viewers, and no, it didn't just start, there was racing action at least one hour into the stream. One hour or so later, browsing again, 1200 viewers! I didn't believe that jump. I get more chat activity if I stream Doom to 25 degenerate boomer simracers..
I subscribed to them so they tend to pop up in my feed when they're live. I don't have much against the people who drive and broadcast, but there is just a dodgy ass vibe around this Saudi backed simracing event that nobody seems to care about anymore.

I am not always a grumpy old man. Today I am reporting on a great triumph of AI technology. YouTube correctly identified the very popular return of ESL R1 as using RF2 physics! Amazing. Faith restored.

Watching @TedMeat drive GP4, reminded me of how the game didn't perform on my PC back in the day. I saved a screenshot. "Processor Occupancy'' had to be less than 100%, otherwise the game would run in slow motion. I had 1200% meaning that every second in game took 12 seconds on my PC. The 'fix' was to lower details, resolution and 'target framerate' until this number as 100% or less. I was not amused, and the number wasn't captured with the screenshot! Maybe Geoff somehow protected large numbers from being captured, as it does highlight the biggest flaw of his sims..

Is it just me, or are more people annoyed that everybody and their dog is making clickbait 'iRacing update' videos despite nobody having any idea what it will be like, feel like, drive like, slide like, perform like? Why do influencers feel they are forced to join the hypetrain? Why do people read tabloids or click videos that they know can't provide them any actual information?

So this is a tricky one. I live a life without ads. I do not want to be advertised to, and feel very strongly about that. I've used ad blocking for as long as it was around. I genuinely feel it would be most likely better for mankind if people weren't influenced as much. At the same time, I know websites aren't free to host and run. I supported a few creators directly over the years with significant donations. Something just doesn't feel right paying for YouTube Premium when I consider Google to be a pretty evil huge company, not existing for our benefit but only here to get the most clicks and eyes, shamelessly promoting crypto scams and other products via ads on their platform, while raking in the billions. I think I will hold my ground and not watch any YouTube for a while. Supposedly this is an experiment. Maybe it is temporary, but you know it is only a matter of time before they are tempted to make more moves in this direction. Maybe there is a workaround..
Maybe it shows like the crap going on with Unity for example, that people relying on huge selfish companies for their content consumption and work, isn't a great thing for the long term..
