2015 Toyota Corolla w/115k miles. A customer was quoted $1,800 6 months ago to replace all four strut/spring assembly. A week ago she inquired about the “recommended repairs” due to needing an oil change. The same independent shop said cost had gone up so it was now a $2,400 job. Being sticker shocked the customer reached out to the local Toyota dealer and was quoted $3,800 and given the advice “you do not need struts/spring assembly at that mileage” over the phone.
(1 Feb 25) I looked up the cost for a complete set of pre-assembled strut/spring (loaded) from Autozone for the vehicle in question. They run about $200 each on the high side or $130 on the low end. So $800. Assuming it takes 1 hr per side at $150/hr labor rate, $600. So all in $1,400, which still seems a lot to digest. How do these folks justify a $1000 or 2400 mark up?
