WWF's mission in Cambodia is to ensure that there will be strong participation and support from all people to conserve the country's rich biological diversity. Through the encouragement of sustainable use of natural resources, WWF Cambodia promotes new opportunities for the benefit of all people, enhancing local livelihoods and contributing to poverty reduction in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Cambodia is regionally and internationally important for the conservation of threatened species of wildlife in habitats on land and in water: The remote forests of Cambodia's Eastern Plains are still home to populations of tigers, elephants, and other endangered large mammals. In addition, a critically endangered freshwater dolphin population, gigantic fish, and many endangered large waterbirds inhabit the Cambodian section of the Mekong River and its wetlands.
