MDRT FOUNDATION PRESIDENCY ANNOUNCEMENT
I started in this wonderful profession in 1989. After serving an apprenticeship for a few years – and not doing terribly well – I decided to get married, start a family, buy my first house and start my own business. I figured if I was going to do it, I may as well go ‘all in!?’
My life hasn’t been perfect; in fact, far from it. I lost my dad and my stepdad to Cancer and went through a long and painful divorce. But by then I had discovered MDRT and the tens of thousands of amazing members who were to become both ‘family’ and my support network.
In 1998 I was attending an MDRT Annual Meeting and as I walked past the MDRT Foundation booth I was approached by Bill McMann; a long-standing MDRT member who was volunteering that day, helping to make more members aware of the MDRT Foundation and the incredible work it does, both raising money and –just as importantly – giving it away…..changing the lives of countless communities, charities and individuals across more than 70 countries.
The more I got involved, the more I gave….in both time and money. Fast forward 26 years and here I am, having reached the highest level of giving (Royal Order Excalibur Knight), after serving in various committee and Chair roles before becoming a Trustee and Officer I find myself in the unbelievable position of MDRT Foundation President for 2024-2025 - an honour I truly appreciate and cherish.
As many know I have always believed in philanthropy and the part each of us can play in making the world a better place for others. Some may not be able to give much (or anything) financially and that’s fine – but we can all give our time? Some of the best things I’ve ever done have included a playground build, the Million Meal Challenge, building lights for communities who do not even have that basic resource and putting together sanitary packs for young women in Africa and India. It’s easy to forget how incredibly fortunate we are; many do not even have the basics. We can all do our bit – and it does make a difference.
To my dear @MillionDollarRoundTable MDRT friends Bob Garneau, Adrian Baker, Asvin Chauhan, David Blake, Andy Lord, Heather Lindsley, Tim Clairmont, Jennifer Borislow, Micki Hoesly, Mitch Ostrove, Scotty Brennan, Guy Baker, Michele Stauff, Karen Matts, Caryn Henning and all those other fabulous MDRT members and Staff who believed in – and supported – me ‘thank you’ - the bottom of my heart 💖
As I look ahead I can promise this: To give the role absolutely everything, to make sure we raise more money, give more away and to ensure more MDRT members aware of the life-changing work of the MDRT Foundation.
