Over a year ago, I made a video about controversies (both marketing and business practices) in the luxury world, that extended beyond Balenciaga. And in light of the recent Dior allegations, I mean, can any of us be truly shocked? I don't mean to be flippant, but it is public knowledge that for years, reports have already been published about labor violations among the top luxury brands, including LMVH. Same with the growing number of Chinese-owned workshops in Italy staffed by undocumented works (all for the "Made in Italy" prestige, at the lowest cost possible).
At the end of the day, whether you choose to continue to buy from OR boycott a certain brand and why, that is up to you! HOWEVER... if you want to be a more mindful and informed consumer, perhaps consider the following: if you boycott Dior and opt for let's say, a "less expensive" brand (like so many people seem to be doing), do you care about ensuring that this other brand is not also engaged in such practices? Or, does it simply come down to price? As in, at a lower price point, are you ok accepting that these issues are commonplace because I guarantee you, chances are, this issues will be MORE, and not less, commonplace, outside of the "luxury" brands.
So I'm curious, is it more about only buying from companies that avoid such practices altogether, regardless of the price, or is it about finding the RIGHT price where these practices are tolerated? Let me know your thoughts (or if this warrants a deeper video discussion!)
