In the past, rural areas of Myanmar practiced a unique tradition involving a carved wooden instrument, referred to as a "Tone Maung" or "Ohm Maung," which produced a distinct sound.
These are wooden percussion instruments, often shaped like hollowed-out logs, which produce a resonant sound when struck.
This instrument was struck twice daily: at 4:00 AM to signify the start of the day and at 4:00 PM to indicate to those working in the forest that it was time to prepare to return home.
This ancient Burmese rural tradition, known as "Tone Mong" or "Ohm Mong" knocking, has gradually faded and is now nearly extinct.
