With a good chunk of the boreal forest currently up in flames we've had to pull a quick about face on a planned 22 day expedition to Northern Quebec. I had been eyeing a few large fires, near the size of Algonquin park, but they didn't seem to pose a hazard to the trip beyond heavy smoke. However, late last week, a few storms rolled in off the Hudson Bay coast and fires started popping up directly on our proposed path. Reluctantly, we made the decision to cancel the trip with just a week until go.

So here's the new plan! Starting this Saturday, Leah and I will be returning to the Little North. To a degree, the route is a continuation of our 2020 journey that saw us paddle the seldom traveled Throat River. For this adventure, we will start from where we finished our last excursion; on the shores of Berens lake and the mighty Berens River. We will paddle downstream through a chain of long interconnected lakes into the province of Manitoba. Next, we'll leave the Berens system behind, as we portage across the watershed divide to the Assinika River. We'll follow the Assinika downstream to the confluence of the Poplar River and travel its course to the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Finally, we'll paddle the exposed eastern coast of Canada's sixth largest lake to the community of Bloodvein. The route will span 22 days and see us cover over 600km. Combined with our 2020 trip this represents over 1050km of paddling through the wilds of the Little North.

We cobbled together this new route in an evening with less than a week to our departure. A big thanks to Albert at Goldseekers Canoe Outfitting for helping us out with shuttle logistics on such short notice! The western side of Northwestern Ontario is largely fire free this season, so if, like us, you find wildfires have impacted your paddling plans, we highly recommend looking at this corner of the country. We promise you won't be disappointed with sights and solitude!

We've got 4-6 paddling videos on deck from the past summer and one special short film project in the works. Mountains, whitewater, lost routes and more in store for the next few months. Also, look for an announcement on this coming summer's big expedition; we're super pumped for this one. Happy exploring all!

Back on track with finishing the edit on our Tichégami River expedition. This one unfortunately sat at 80% complete for far too long but we're finally making some serious headway once again. Look for the video series to launch sometime in December or January. So far we're at 2hrs 20mins worth of completed video with more to add! Thanks for your patience.

Full combined version of LITTLE NORTH is up. We had wanted to put it up last year, but internet speeds at the time limited uploading ability. New series will be launching soon! Happy paddling all.

Wow! We hit 15k subs!! Leah, Wayne and I want to thank you for your continued support over the years! An extra special shoutout for those who have been around for the decade+ we've been producing content! We hope you've enjoyed the journey as much as we have.
Update from the edit bay: we've hit the 2hrs mark on our Tichégami River expedition video. So far it's shaping up to be a 3hr series. Aiming to get Ep.1 out in a ~month and subsequent episodes to drop weekly after. Look for a trailer to drop in the coming weeks.

Almost done an action packed fall camping video from one of my favourite runs in Northeastern Ontario. We'll aim to have a premiere on Thursday evening if all goes well! Stay tuned for updates.

Hey all! We're busy editing our expedition film, but because it takes months to complete, the plan is to release some shorter videos throughout the winter months. Editing burnout is very real when working on a massive project, so switching it up every now and then keep the creativity flowing.

We've heard from some of you before that you'd like to see our backcountry cooking recipes. Is there any interest in a simple cooking series from dehydration to rehydration of our fav backcountry meals?
