Watching the Chopin Competition livestream is unbearable with the live chat open.. Dozens of viewers constantly pointing out EVERY SINGLE missed note, the slightest shiver of imperfection or just simply anything that deviates even a fraction from what they want to hear.
Seems like music has become a byproduct in some people's minds.

Do you also associate certain composers with a specific key signature?

I'll start with...
Beethoven = C Minor
Chopin = A-Flat Major
Rachmaninoff = D Minor

..your turn!

Which work was described as "a warning to pianists not to take up the musical profession unless they have remarkable hands" by the composer himself?

Which piano piece has been written with the intention of surpassing Balakirev's "Islamey" in terms of difficulty?

Alright, that's it. Don't expect any more long-form videos from me again anytime soon.
Not gonna waste my time carefully checking for copyright issues months in advance only to then have several hours of work blocked when all was fine initially.

Here, listen to Zhukov's recording instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-BbY...

Arrau's Liszt Etudes have been blocked AGAIN..
If you still wish to listen to it, there are several other videos (without score) with the exact same performance on YT that don't get blocked EVER. Apparently it's fine unless you put actual effort into making the video.

It's also not an auto-block as it's all completely fine upon upload, with the usual copyright claim that makes sure that the copyright holder gets paid the ad revenue.
If you don't want the audio to be used then block it RIGHT AWAY and stop wasting our time, thank you.

➧➧📌IMPORTANT INFO FOR LISTENING TO MUSIC ON YOUTUBE 🎧 (feel free to share):

Apparantly - without telling anybody - YouTube is currently implementing a "Stable Volume" feature which will be turned on by default.
This will stabilize the volume, amplifying quiet parts and/or compressing loud parts.

Unfortunately, it mostly sounds like little 5 year old Timmy meddled with a compressor for the very first time in his life, therefore completely ruining the listening experience.

So, please make sure to TURN IT OFF, right in the video player, under the little ⚙ SETTINGS button.
It's not available on most videos, but when it is you don't wanna use it.

I hope I could save your listening experience.

So.. pleased to have done your job, YouTube - by actually TELLING your users. Not at all! Anytime again! I expect my fee within the next few days.

Whenever I read comments on a recording from a 19th century pianist, admired and taught by some of the greatest composers and pianists of the romantic era, there are always those people who come up with all kinds of excuses like...

„He was probably very old when he recorded this“
„Maybe he was drunk“
„When they heard him play he probably didn’t play like this“
„This rubato is tasteless and makes no musical sense, no way XY liked this“
or „They wouldn’t have approved of his playing if they heard this appalling recording“

...simply because they cannot comprehend how the greatest composers from the 19th century could possibly approve of a recording that doesn't sound anything like our carefully researched, academic performance practices of today.

We have actual recordings from musicians born in the 1850s and yet some still question the authenticity. Why should WE - in the 21st century - know better?

Now feel free to gather your torches and tuning forks and leave your comment

Here's a riddle and the answer is a work for solo piano.

🐞🐞🐞🐞 ||: 9 :|| ⟷🎹

I will deliberately NOT reveal the solution. I'm curious to see if anyone can solve this.
