A little surprised the trolls didn't come out and criticize me for the unfiltered look at Beijing on Friday.
Well, to make amends, here is another shot, unfiltered, from today as the skies cleared up and we eventually saw some blue.

The reality of living in a country such as China that is going through such rapid development AND is the manufacturing centre of the world, is that you have days like this where the Air Quality Index (AQI) can hit some high numbers. Think: forest fires in California or Alberta, with a similar smell some times.
Beijing isn't unique to this as other cities (Lanzhou, Xi'an) also have smog and pollution problems.
So what do you do on these days?
You can wear a mask, stay inside with your air filter on, or, do as the locals do: just keep going.
Often times Chinese media will remind people that California faced serious pollution problems in the 1980s and London, England did as well in the 1950s. Is it just China's turn or is this something that is a fallout from being central in its manufacturing role?
What do you think?

666 subscribers!
Number of the beast or good luck?!
In the West, the number 666 is often associated with the Devil and is seen as a bad or unlucky number.
However, in China, 666 is considered a very lucky number as it is a homophone of the character 溜 (liū) which, translated by itself has a variety of meanings. But when put together in the phrase 溜溜溜, it means "very good".
Wherever you fall on the spectrum of numerology, be it from Iron Maiden to modern Chinese gaming, thank you for following along and here's to the next milestone of 888!

Practicing my Traditional Chinese character writing.
Bought these sheets on Taobao for about 36RMB, (~$7.5 CAD) and am trying to go through one per day. I have eight booklets that have 20 sheets each. Can I stay consistent? That’s a long time to commit!

What is something that would help you to hit your goals in your target language?
Is it an APP?
A piece of software?
More time?
More money?
Better teacher?
Something else?
It's been a while since I've begun learning another language, especially since Chinese takes up so much of my time. In my experience, I've had to spend A LOT of time on my own learning the language instead of depending on something external.
But what about you? I'm interested in hearing what people are looking for in order to learn a language these days.
