A little change of pace tonight, but something we think our followers will love -
Posting at 6pm tonight on The Northwoods Family YouTube Channel, our three-part video series documenting our trip to the Bonneville Slat Flats with the Indian Motorcycle Land Speed Racing Team.
Kimâs dad raced his turbocharged Indian Chief for the second time at the Bonneville Speedway and friend Sean Schwefel got his first runs down the track after the event was cancelled in 2022 due to heavy rain.
This was an awesome year, the SCTA/BNI crew did an amazing job with the track, despite some crazy weather. We had a ton of fun, and we hope youâll swing by the channel and checkout the racing!

Forgot to post this - Jolene (who is ten) took her first buck (second deer overall) a few weeks ago during the youth gun hunt in Wisconsin. She made a nice shot on it from 40 yards and he didnât go far. Any of you hunt with your kids?

We are out doing some exploring, which will include another UTV trip weâre pretty excited about. On the way west we did some fishing in Wyoming - Jolene caught her first trout on a fly rod!
We know youâve been waiting to see how the trip home from Lake Superior went but we werenât quite able to get that video done before we had to head out again. Sorry to keep you waiting for a few more weeks đ˘
Good news is, when we get back behind the computer to knock out some editing, we should have a bunch of new content for ya!

Weâre starting to get serious about prepping for our next trip. Even though youâll see a lot of GPS use in our videos, there is something about paper maps that canât be replicated by a glowing screen.
Especially for planning - thereâs no better way to see the âbig pictureâ than a paper map.
But I think thereâs something nostalgic about paper maps for me too. A good map is an experience itself. The touch and smell of the paper. The bright colors and lines snaking their way across the paper, foreshadowing the adventure that lay ahead.
Growing up there was no GPS. Weâd stop by AAA for maps before we left, and on the road, weâd stop at the welcome center for a state map every time we crossed a state line. I maybe conditioned from my childhood that when the maps come out, itâs time to get excited about the next trip.

I think this weekend may have been our last one on the ice this year. The weather has not been kind to ice fishing in southern Wisconsin this year.
We got out a few times, werenât able to get in any ice camping, and the fishing was slow every time. Our work schedule hasnât helped a lot, Kim only gets about one weekend off a month, and the kids have school during the week - in other words âresponsibilitiesâ have put a damper on our winter adventures đ
We did some filming but in all honestly, it was terribly slowâŚ.
That said, we have some cool adventures planned for summer! At least two BIG UTV overlanding trips, and some good weekend rides.
Time to stow the ice fishing gear and start getting our General ready to rock!!!

Eight inches of wet heavy snow fell today! Took down some good sized branches we had to clear and made for tough plowing. So beautiful though!

First snowfall of the season. We were supposed to get 1-3â and we wound up with 7.5â! The kids are excited and the snow will be nice for this weekendâs whitetail opener!

Our family loves to get outside and explore new places and activities - our biggest draw is overland camping in our 2021 Polaris General 4 - with both of our kids! Overlanding has taken us to all sorts of places we never knew existed, and it's helped us teach our children about resilience, problem solving, self-sufficiency, nature and more. But most of all it's a ton of fun!!!
It doesn't matter if you live in the city or country - we want to help you find ways to get outside with your family too! We love hearing from subscribers who tell us our trips inspired them to get outside. That's what it's all about.
