Recently I found a nugget with over one thousand dollars in gold in it. It is thick, about the same size as the end of my pinky finger, and weighs 13.5 grams. At today's prices, its a $1,000 chunk of gold. I've found bigger but a nugget this size is always a very welcome find. I got some video shot while I was out there, so be sure to tune into my YouTube channel tomorrow when the video drops. It's Chris Ralph, Professional Prospector.

A gigantic diamond weighing nearly 2,500 carats was found just recently in Botswana, Africa. It is worth a fortune and will cut many large gemstones. Would you like to learn about finding kimberlite, the ore rock for diamonds? My next video, coming out Saturday morning will be a deep dive into finding kimberlite pipes. Geologists think there are many kimberlite diamond deposits that remain to be found because they are often hidden under the soil. So its worthwhile to go out and search for them.

Sorry, no video this week. Spent the early part of the week doing my taxes (ugh), then I came down with a bad cold which has turned out to be one of the Covid strains. So I am taking it easy and recovering. Starting to feel better, and next weeks' video should be extra good, as I've had 2 weeks to work on it.

I really enjoy talking with you guys about gold, gems and minerals on my youTube channel, but this summer I had the chance to take my granddaughter to the Gem and Mineral Hall at the LA Co. Natural History museum. It was an amazing time together and we had a wonderful experience looking at all the gold, crystals and gems on display there. Do you ever get to share time prospecting or exploring the world of gems and minerals with your family?

No video today, as I just got home from a trip to Colorado. Lots of good things to report and interesting videos coming up, so I'll have a new video up a week from today. Got some snow in Colorado, but it only slowed me down a little bit. This is a piece of underground mining equipment. I've used one just like it. Does anyone know the name of this equipment and what its used for? It requires compressed air to operate.

A while back I picked up this piece of quartz with visible gold from an old mine dump in Nevada. The gold is small, as is most hard rock gold. Would you all be interested in more content on gold ores, hard rock gold, and small scale hard rock gold mining?

This week's video is on Gemstones born in lava and volcanoes. The truth is that there are many gemstones that are born in lava and magma. Check it out my new video this Saturday if you are interested in how the gems form and how you can find them.

This week's video is on recovering alluvial diamonds. Diamond bearing gravels are an important part of world production. Alluvial diamonds in gravels are widespread in the US – CA, CO, WY, Midwest. They are found in low levels to be sure, but they are there. During the Calif. Gold rush, hundreds of diamonds were found by the gold miners. Diamonds are occasionally found in gravels in the Midwest that have been carried down from Canada in glacial gravels. Video will go live on Saturday morning.

This one is for Dan Hurd - Dan recently posted a short video on why nuggets are in flat shapes. Certainly gold can be flattened as it moves downstream (which is what Dan said), but there are some districts where all the gold is naturally formed in the ground into flat shapes - and this gold often comes from foliated or shistose rocks (rocks that naturally break into flat slabs). Here is a nugget that I dug a while back, it weighs a bit more than 3 grams. It is a flat corn flake - but it is rough and the geology of this area is such that this piece was never in a stream - so its not been flattened.
