Sembrerebbe che la “tecnica vocale operistica” (termine generico) sia un qualcosa di immutabile, atto a preservare nel tempo le vocalità adatte ai capolavori musicali dei grandi compositori dei secoli passati…
Purtroppo non è così … noto ultimamente un sempre più forte condizionamento della vocalità “pop” (una pseudo tecnica vocale) nei cantanti lirici odierni, con inopinate vocali sempre più aperte e sgangherate, e con Giuseppe Di Stefano (fenomeno naturale) come punto di riferimento tecnico (!!).

Ho il piacere di condividere questo video (ad uso interno) del CONCERTO con letture meditate sul periodo natalizio, realizzato sabato 16 dicembre 2023 presso la bellissima Chiesa di Saint John Cantius a CHICAGO (USA).
Riporto i brani che ho cantato e la loro durata:

-"Boze! Boze!" (Dvorak) 52:50
-“Popatriz na me” (Dvorak) 1 ora 05:55 sec
- “Benedictus” (Saint Saens) 1:29:04 sec
Ho cantato con piacere con un coro di alto livello in termini di colore e volume del suono (diversi membri provengono dal CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA Choir: uno dei migliori cori d'opera al mondo).
La direzione del M° Massimo SCAPIN, che ringrazio ancora per l'invito concessomi, è stata intensa e pragmatica. Chiesa gremita in ogni ordine e grado con la presenza di illustri autorità come il Vice SINDACO di Chicago e il CONSOLE di Polonia...
Il pubblico mi ha accolto con grande calore e sincera partecipazione: mi ha molto colpito il commento di una strumentista che mi ha detto che nella mia voce si sentono le VOCI dei GRANDI del passato... umilmente sono onorato di queste parole... certamente quello che cerco di fare e di insegnare è la tecnica del Belcanto romantico, che ha un DOGMA fondamentale nel passaggio di registro e che ha avuto come perfetti esecutori alcuni genii della voce (Pavarotti, Lauri Volpi, Tagliabue , eccetera...).
Si sente dire sempre più spesso che oggi non ci sono più voci: ma esistono le voci o la tecnica adeguata per svilupparle?

I am pleased to share this video (for internal use) of the CONCERT with thoughtful readings on the Christmas season, created on Saturday 16 December 2023 at the beautiful Church of Saint John Cantius in CHICAGO (USA).

I sang with pleasure with a high-level choir in terms of color and volume of sound (several members are from the CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA Choir: one of the best opera choirs in the world ).
The direction of Maestro Massimo SCAPIN, who I thank again for the invitation granted to me, is intense and pragmatic. Full church in every order and degree with the presence of illustrious authorities such as the Vice MAYOR of Chicago and the CONSUL of Poland...
The public welcomed me with great warmth and sincere participation: I was very struck by a comment from an instrumentalist who told me she said that in my voice she hears the VOICES of the GREATS of the past... I humbly thanked her and I am honored by these words... certainly, what I try to do and teach is the technique of romantic Bel canto which has a fundamental DOGMA in the passage of register and essential and which had vocal geniuses as perfect implementers (Pavarotti, Lauri Volpi, Tagliabue, etc...).
We hear more and more often that today there are no more voices: but are there voices or the appropriate technique to develop them?

Le vocali del Belcanto romantico italiano (come ampiamente dimostrato da geni della voce come Aureliano Pertile e Giacomo Lauri Volpi) sono scrupolosamente e necessariamente vocali MISTE, con altrettanto necessario risalto finale della vocale FONDAMENTALE (cioè quella usata nel parlato). L'insistenza sulle vocali pure è una evidente aberrazione moderna derivante dalla fobia del cantante lirico (in particolare del basso ma anche del soprano) di non farsi capire mentre canta... la voce cantata deve essere perfettamente intellegibile ma non può imitare la voce parlata .
Cantare è come Volare, non una camminata profana…

The vowels of Italian Romantic Belcanto (as amply demonstrated by vocal geniuses such as Aureliano Pertile and Giacomo Lauri Volpi) are scrupulously and necessarily MIXED vowels, with an equally necessary final prominence of the FUNDAMENTAL vowel (i.e. the one used in speech). The insistence on pure vowels is an evident modern aberration deriving from the opera singer's (in particular the bass but also the soprano) phobia of not being understood while singing... the singing voice must be perfectly intelligible but cannot imitate the spoken voice .
Singing is like flying, not a profane walk...

I studied with her from 2000 until a few months before her death in 2004.
Dear “Aunt”, I will always have an indelible memory for you, in the certainty of Communion with those who are no longer physically on this earth.
I remember you dearly on the 19th anniversary of your passing.
