Did you know Singapore is one of the safest, cleanest and greenest cities in the entire world? Singapore has one the most amount of cameras per square mile and some interesting laws! For example, you will get fined (or even jail time) for not flushing the toilet, for spitting or throwing anything on the ground, smoking in most public areas, selling chewing gum and jay walking. 🎥 New upload! 😃 Let me take you along to Barcelona Airport (LEBL) again! 🥰 While working for my first airline, for about a year, Barcelona was my line training base! Together with 3 other guys I lived near Plaça d’España located directly above one of the many Mercadona’s (Spanish supermarket). Up until today I can still remember the song which we could hear all day long through the apartment. I’ll never forget taking the night bus, doing 4 sectors a day and learning so much in such a short time. It was the start of my pilot career! ✈️ 8 years and a couple of airlines later, I still visit Barcelona now and then during my layovers, but with another mindset and totally different vibe! ✈️🏝 Do you know what I mean and do you have the same feeling with a specific location/place? Cleared for take off! ✈️ Did you know this about a takeoff? 🛫
During the takeoff roll, before reaching 80 knots (around 90 mph or 150 km/h), we stop for anything abnormal. 🙌 But between 80 knots and V1, we ONLY stop the take off for an engine failure, engine fire, predictive windshear warning, or if the airplane is unsafe or unable to fly. If anything happens at or after V1, which is the decision speed, we continue to fly and follow an emergency turn, fly the departure, or ask for headings depending on the situation.
During the takeoff roll, between the call ‘thrust set’ and V1, the captain keeps his/her hand 🫳 on the thrust levers. As soon as V1 is reached, the captain immediately removes his/her hand ✋from the thrust levers. From that moment on, whatever happens: we fly! Engine failure or fire? We fly! Cockpit window open?
