“In a room of powerful bankers, I didn’t flex my wealth—I offered my word.
It wasn’t my capital that earned their confidence. It was character.”
— John D. Rockefeller, Letter to His Son

The Women Who Color Our World – A Tribute on International Women’s Day
Over the course of my life, I have had the privilege of working, learning, and growing alongside remarkable women in so many capacities. And through every experience—whether in community service, hosting events, collaborating on group projects, leading clubs, or interviewing phenomenal women on my podcast—one truth has remained undeniable: women add a special, irreplaceable color to our world.
I have seen it firsthand.
I have seen it in the way they nurture ideas into movements, in the way they lead with both strength and grace, in the way they pour themselves into their craft—whether in boardrooms, classrooms, hospitals, courtrooms, or in the quiet moments of everyday life where their impact is immeasurable.
I have seen it in the books they have written, words that have shaped minds and sparked revolutions. From Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed to the visionary works of Octavia Butler, the bold storytelling of Buchi Emecheta and Chimamanda Adichie—women have taught me through their pages, shaping my perspective, expanding my understanding of the world.
I have seen it in the professors who have taught me—both in-person and online—pouring their knowledge into me with passion and precision, determined to equip me with more than just facts, but wisdom.
I have seen it in my sisters, who inspire me every day with their excellence.
My twin, a brilliant lawyer.
My elder sister, Oly, a compassionate nurse.
My eldest sister, Adanna, the curator of Our Hairitage, preserving the beauty of identity through culture.
Even my online yoga instructor, Adrienne, who unknowingly teaches me balance beyond just movement.
And I have felt it, deeply, in the love and care of my mother and my aunts—the first women who ever nurtured me, who embody the African saying: "It takes a village to raise a child." Their wisdom, their sacrifices, their silent battles and loud victories—these are the forces that build futures.
To my female professors, mentors, colleagues, friends—thank you.
For seeing what many do not.
For feeling what many overlook.
For addressing what many ignore.
For making the world more beautiful in ways big and small, loud and quiet, seen and unseen.
To every woman reading this, know that you are a rockstar. You are a force. You are magic. And today, and every day, you deserve to be celebrated.
Happy International Women’s Day!

If you accomplish something good with hard work, the labor passes quickly, but the good endures; if you do something shameful in pursuit of pleasure, the pleasure passes quickly, but the shame endures.

I hope 2023 will be a year we create goals and tick them off. 🗓️
To commemorate the new year, I'd be releasing a conversation I had with my friend Maimuna on her journey with Islam and her new found peace that resulted from abstaining from worldly desires.
