The new album "Farasha" by violist Sindy Mohamed is out now.
"Farasha" includes a fascinating mixture of Western classical music and Arabic influences: with works by Saint-Saëns, Hindemith and a new interpretation of a piece by Khaled Al Kammar, Sindy Mohamed demonstrates her extraordinary viola artistry.

The album title is the Arabic word for “butterfly”—a metaphor not only for the metamorphosis of her own artistic identity, but also for that of the viola itself: from an often underrated instrument to a versatile, colorful storyteller that effortlessly mediates between cultures, eras, and styles. She is supported by renowned pianist Julien Quentin and outstanding guest musicians such as Wassim Mukdad (oud) and Serdar Saydan (riq).

In celebration of Arvo PĂ€rt’s upcoming birthday, pianist Kai Schumacher and cellist Benedict Kloeckner are releasing their new album "Fratres". The two musicians embark on a search for PĂ€rt’s kindred spirits — such as Philip Glass, Gavin Bryars, and others — through a kaleidoscopic interplay of original works, their own arrangements, and commissioned compositions.
Fratres, composed in the so-called Tintinnabuli style, broke with the musical zeitgeist and pursued reduction and a focus on the essentials — the true core of the music. Sounds of enchanting beauty, repetitive structures, and contemplative expansiveness resonate througout the other pieces on this album.
Works by Messiaen and Georges I. Gurdjieff even reveal another dimension of PĂ€rt’s music: a music full of spiritual power between mysticism and minimalism.

A co-production with SWR Kultur.

The single "ZĂŒricher Vielliebchenwalzer" by Matthias Kirschnereit is a curiosity in Wagner’s piano output, dedicated to the 18-year-old sister of Mathilde Wesendonck. Bearing the playful inscription “to the delightful young Marie / by the best dancer from Saxony / named: / Richard, the Waltz-Maker”, it reveals an unexpectedly light-hearted side of the composer. Written in Zurich, the waltz combines charm and wit in a manner far removed from Wagner’s monumental stage works. Its spirited character finds a temperamental counterpart in the “Scherzo” op. 3 by German-Swiss composer Joachim Raff.
