Day 3 of my 3 month Japanese challenge.
Took the day off today because I had some friends visiting.
I'm going to create a playlist on my phone with the Language Islands and mass sentence audio files so that whenever I have a day off, I can still review the sentences by listening to them while walking, waiting, getting ready, etc. Preparation is everything.
Will post video tomorrow with the rest of the 2,000 verbs.

Can you learn Japanese in 3 Months?
Let's get the experiment started.

Day 1:
Slow start because I didn't have much free time.
Busy day today.
First video tomorrow when I have more time.

Prepared text and audio materials.
Started working on the first 100 Language Islands and the 2,000 most common verbs.
If you look at the picture you'll see that there are 5 consecutive columns with the same Japanese text.
That's how I create audio files with TTS that repeat the same sentence 5 times for shadowing.

Total practice:
- 142 mnemonic associations
- 600 reps of Shadowing
Rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up.

First impression? Everything is new, but it doesn't seem particularly difficult. Words are relatively easy to memorise.

If you're interested in the materials I'm using, they're in the NLL Community.

If you are allowed to do only 1 thing.

Only 1 type of language learning practice.
You are not allowed to do anything else.

What do you do?

How would you learn Chinese?

I often get asked if the techniques I teach work for every language.

"Okay that works for French or Spanish...but what about Russian?"

Well I have learned Russian and it worked exactly the same.

"All right, what about something like Mandarin Chinese?"

I haven't learned Mandarin yet but a quick search with some examples was enough to figure out how it will work.

Let's see if you can figure it out:

手机 (shǒujī) – cellphone (literally "hand machine")
手表 (shǒubiǎo) – wristwatch (literally "hand clock")
手工 (shǒugōng) – handmade or manual labor (literally "hand work")
手术 (shǒushù) – surgery or operation (literally "hand technique")
手指 (shǒuzhǐ) – finger (literally "hand finger")
手套 (shǒutào) – glove (literally "hand cover")
手心 (shǒuxīn) – palm of the hand (literally "hand heart/center")
手电筒 (shǒudiàntǒng) – flashlight (literally "hand electric tube")
手段 (shǒuduàn) – means, method (literally "hand section" or "hand measure")
手册 (shǒucè) – manual, handbook (literally "hand book")
助手 (zhùshǒu) – assistant (literally "help hand")
手柄 (shǒubǐng) – handle or joystick (literally "hand handle")
手链 (shǒuliàn) – bracelet (literally "hand chain")
手环 (shǒuhuán) – wristband (literally "hand ring")
手袋 (shǒudài) – handbag (literally "hand bag")
手枪 (shǒuqiāng) – pistol (literally "hand gun")
手艺 (shǒuyì) – craftsmanship, skill (literally "hand art")
手忙脚乱 (shǒumáng jiǎoluàn) – in a fluster (literally "hands busy, feet in disorder")
手榴弹 (shǒuliúdàn) – grenade (literally "hand pomegranate bomb")
手写 (shǒuxiě) – handwriting (literally "hand write")
手纸 (shǒuzhǐ) – toilet paper (literally "hand paper")
手势 (shǒushì) – gesture (literally "hand sign")
手足 (shǒuzú) – hands and feet; often used to refer to siblings (literally "hand and foot")
出手 (chūshǒu) – to take action, to sell (literally "out hand")
洗手 (xǐshǒu) – to wash hands
投手 (tóushǒu) – pitcher (in baseball) (literally "throw hand")
鼓手 (gǔshǒu) – drummer (literally "drum hand")

How would you learn this as fast as possible?

Which language do you want to improve your speaking skills at?

I'm creating materials for listening & repeating drills.

To improve fluency and pronunciation fast.

The process is slow so I want to know which languages I should do first.

Let me know in the comments.

This is Luis von Ahn.

He is the founder of Duolingo.

He built a language app with 500 million users.

He only speaks English and Spanish.

Spanish because he grew up in Latin America.

English because he was sent to a private English-language school for rich kids.

Never learned a language on his own.

99% of his app's users never become fluent.

If you're looking for someone to blame.

For your language learning failures.

Look no further.
But it's not too late.

I am going to upload audio files with the most common 14,000 German words with example sentences.
Basically all the vocabulary you need to understand 99.99% and become fluent.

What do you prefer? German sentences only or German with English translation next to them?

What is a polyglot?

Once in a while I get some loser in the comments go "hyperpolyglot lmao".

Well..

There is an International Association of Hyperpolyglots.

If you are a member of the International Association of Hyperpolyglots.

After being invited to join and tested.

I think you are allowed to call yourself a hyperpolyglot.

BTW the definition of a polyglot is simple:

Someone who speaks +4 languages.

A hyperpolyglot speaks +6.

Are you a polyglot? Do you want to be one?
