Hello interpreters,
HERE IS 3 THINGS TO KEEP IN YOUR BANK!!!!

πŸ’‘ 1. FIND A GOOD POSITION IN THE ROOM:
When you walk into a room make sure you position yourself well. Make sure you're standing in a place in the room where you can hear all the parties clearly. Make sure that you can hear the providers, hear the patients, family members, or anyone else who is joining the conversation. Also, make sure that you're not hovering over anybody or that you're not in a place where you're taking over the room either. It will all depend on the size of the room, but normally you are able to find a good spot. Feel free to say, β€œI'm going to stand over here because this way I’ll be able to hear everyone” or β€œ...this way I'm not in the way”, whatever you want to explain abt why you’re positioning yourself in that part of the room. Find a good position for optimum accuracy.

πŸ’‘2. BE CONFIDENT:
It's important to be confident so that you can control the room. Basically you're controlling the pace of the conversation, in that if the provider is speaking too quickly, you're confident enough to ask them to please slow down so that you don't miss anything. If the provider or the patient, or a family member are speaking too softly, then you have the confidence to ask them to please speak up so that you can hear everything they are saying. You also need confidence to be able to ask for clarification when people are not speaking clearly enough for you to understand what they're saying, and also confident enough to ask somebody to repeat something because you didn't catch it the first time. Be confident enough to know that you're the expert in the room so that you don't get nervous and forget what you know you know.

πŸ’‘3. TAKE NOTES:
Taking notes is helpful when done correctly but it can be a double-edged sword. When you are taking notes make sure that you're only jotting down key words, key phrases, hints, or clues that will help you remember what was said. Taking notes is particularly helpful when you're dealing with lists, dates, numbers, descriptions, addresses, etc. Avoid writing down whole sentences or paragraphs because you may miss what is being said while you write. Always bring a notepad to write with in case you need it.

🌍 Lost in Translation? Know the Difference! 🌍

πŸ“š Translators and interpreters both play crucial roles in bridging language barriers, but they have distinct responsibilities! Here's the lowdown:

πŸ–‹οΈ Translators are the wordsmiths of the written word. They meticulously convert written content from one language to another while preserving the original message's essence, style, and cultural nuances. Think books, websites, articles – they've got it covered! πŸ“–πŸŒ

πŸ—£οΈ On the other hand, interpreters are the superheroes of spoken communication. They work in real-time, facilitating smooth conversations between people who speak different languages. From conferences to medical appointments, they're the rapid thinkers who ensure nothing gets lost in translation! πŸŽ€πŸŽ‰

Remember, both translators and interpreters are language experts who help us connect and understand each other's worlds. Whether it's through the written word or spoken dialogue, they're the key to breaking down language barriers! πŸš€πŸ—¨οΈ #LanguageHeroes #TranslationVsInterpretation #BridgingTheGap

❓❓❓Where do I find the 40-hour course that I need to take? That is a very popular question!

➑️ If you want to become a #certifiedmedicalinterpreter , the 40-hour course is one of the prerequisites on your checklist (by the way, next month I'm launching a simple and straightforward checklist for my followers to help in the certification process). At the #CCHI and #NBCMI websites, you can find a list of recommended courses.

If you go to either CCHI or NBCMI when you decide who you're going to get certified with, those websites have a list of approved 40-hour courses that you can take.

You can choose any one of those, and it should be fine.

πŸ”΄ P.S.: I went for the cheapest one because I didn't know anything back then, and it worked. However, they offer different options and programs. Just choose the one that works best for you!!!😊

If you need ASSISTANCE for YOUR JOURNEY to become a medical interpreter, check the link in the BIO and book your appointment!
