I'm four years into my journey and counting. Deciding to get (DIY)microlocs locs has been the best decision I've made for my hair. Although I've lost some and conjoined others, I've also started new ones and I'm in love with the results. My traditional have grown significantly and no longer fit in the frame. If you're considering microlocs, I highly recommend taking the plunge. Not only are they low maintenance, but they also offer admirable versatility. Please ensure you take progression photos.
