NEW MODIFICATION FOR BERIAULT BICYCLE CAMPER BUILDERS
A note to those of you who have the plans for building your own camper.

Last October I decided to convert my camper from a "wheels-off" camper to a "wheels-stay-in-place" camper.

I did part of the work then, and will finish this coming March (2021).
I discovered that the frame, the way it is designed, is strong enough
to support my weight, contrary to what I had assumed when I first built it,
with the wheels left in place in camping mode. I made a set of wheel chocks
and a set of swivel legs at the front of the frame.
To allow the platform door and the lateral pullout to operate
with the wheels in place, it requires making the doorway and
the opening of the pullout 26 inches instead of the dimensions
mentioned in the plans. I've already modified the lateral pullout, which
was pretty easy: just a matter of filling in a few inches of the opening
and cutting the pullout down to size and making a pair of thin legs
that are hinged and easily tucked under the pullout when closed.
For the foot pullout I'm using a line made of parachute chord
attached to the camper walls with little s-hooks.
I still have the door to make narrower. It will require rebuilding the
right walls at level 1 and level 2. I still haven't decided if I will hinge
it at the top or at the bottom or on one of the sides.
It will also mean making the vestibule higher. I might keep the present
nylon lean-to and add a skirt of 10" high at the bottom.
I slept in the camper one night with the wheels in place and I found
that everything is so much easier: getting in and out, putting my shoes on,
getting dressed, rolling up my air mattress.

October 30, 2019
A brief note to let you know what I'm up to this fall. At the beginning of September, I made a five-day trip with my Bériault bicycle camper along the Ottawa River. I haven't yet made a video of the trip, but I have to finish the last review of my book first. I'm writing a book about how to reduce one's environment impact while travelling. I started the book in 2012. While I always keep on adding to it, I've reached the point where enough is enough. I decided to add no more new material, but to re-read it for the 10th time and to spellcheck the whole thing from cover to cover before submitting it for publication. If I can concentrate my attention to this task, I should be able to resume working on my YouTube channel by the end of November.

I put my trailer in storage at the end of September, and very soon the snows will come, forcing me to put an end to my cycling season. In the meantime, I'm just using my ebikes for necessary outings and errands.

While I'm finishing my book I'll keep a eye on the comments on my channel and will continue responding to each one.
Take care.
