Dear Sir,

RE: ON THE THREAT MADE BY A SOLDIER ON SOCIAL MEDIA AGAINST UDP

I write on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the United Democratic Party to bring to the attention of your office the above captioned matter.

The United Democratic Party condemns in the strongest possible terms this latest threat against UDP, to โ€˜finish the UDP before 2026' issued by a serving soldier named as Drammeh Sonko Jarju, on social media.

This is not the first time threats of harm and, or destruction against the UDP had been made but for the first time a soldier is making such a threat against the party via social media audios.

The UDP takes all such threats seriously and urges your office to take prompt actions to address this matter urgently.

Needless to say, UDP has expected that the Armed Forces of the Gambia will take swift action to reassure the National Executive Committee and members of the UDP that this abhorrent statement of the soldier is dealt with immediately.

At a time of unprecedented political polarisation and divisive rhetoric compounded by high incidences of violent crimes where police officers on duty are randomly shot resulting to a loss of life, the United Democratic Party is gravely concerned about the recent threat made by a serving military personnel.

The UDP wishes to emphasise the urgent need for all institutions and security agencies of the state to restrain from making comments that are offensive and or likely to create misunderstanding among the citizens and to institute codes of conduct for active-duty officers particularly on social media.

To be clear UDP believes that a soldier of the Gambia Armed Forces making reckless and provocative statements on social media is totally unacceptable.

The UDP looks forward to hearing from you on this matter as soon as possible. Please accept the assurances of highest consideration and regards

Yours Sincerely

Alhagie S Darbo

My Honest Opinion,
OMAR A. DANSO. 23.09.2024

I have a leader who is the most respected politician in The Gambia. His success wasnโ€™t achieved overnight; it was built through hard work and dedication. The people admire him, and their love for him continues to grow each day across every part of the country. He is H.E. Lawyer Darboe. So, Iโ€™m not in search of a leader, because I already have the greatest one.

The Gambia will, Insha'Allah, have a new President in 2026.

Darboe Jula.

In the meantime, the arrival of H.E. Darboe is set for October 7th, 2024, at 7 PM Gambian time. He will be escorted to his residence in Pipeline.

Let's make sure we're at the airport on time to give him a welcome truly fitting for a President.

Keep holding your head high, Baiyo Sonko. You've been a patriot from the very beginning, and that's why you shouldn't engage with certain comments or people on social media. You have an outstanding reputation in Gambian politics.

Today I attended the Local and Regional Governments Day where mayors and partners discussed on the issue of LOCAL CARING SYSTEMS, our understanding of how to implement in the local context. We all agreed that care is not an afterthought but the very foundation upon which we build our social and economic systems. Caring territories are more than just physical spaces instead they represent a transformation approach to how we structure our communities and governance. There are communities where care is a priority of public policy and social organization and is recognize that the act of caring, be it raising children, providing healthcare or supporting the elderly, it is important to the well -being and cohesion of our communities.

GAMBIA POLITICO: MARK THE DATE AND PROTEST FOR GAMBIA
Mark the date and do your utmost to attend and protest for Gambia! If not for your sake, please do it for our sake! Please take note, under Barrowโ€™s government, we (The Gambians) cannot protest without the permission of the police, which is most often refused. Our basic human rights right to freedom of assembly and peaceful protest is at the mercy of the IGP!
Please protest for us in New York, USA, because we in Gambia have a lot of issues to protest against the government of President Adama Barrow. One main reason for that is their total neglect of our affairs. As citizens of this nation, our economy is on a cliff edge whilst our currency, the Dalasis, is plummeting against all major currencies. We currently enduring the highest cost of living, in our nationโ€™s history, which is not been helped by our Presidentโ€™s insatiable penchant to rule us for another billion years.
So if you are in the US or any part of the world and make it to New York to protest for us, please do! We need your support! We need you to stand up and be counted for all of us in the Gambia. Please help us and tell President Adama Barrow that we are suffering in the Gambia and that we do not need him to stand for more than 2 terms!
