What a beast. Here are the specs and here are the FCPX results when compared to my M1 Mac Mini using Sony A7s iii footage
-16” M1 Max 32core, 32gb ram, 1tb
vs
-M1 mac mini 8gb ram
Fcpx 3min project
Sony a7s iii footage
Mix between 4k/50- 4k/100 10 bit 4:2:2 h.265 and also dji drone footage
With heaps of transitions, 3 layers of colour grading, and in sections of the video there are 3 streams of 4k-100hz stacked on top of each other for effects.
*Render time m1 mini - 8:40
*Render time m1 max - 2:59
*Export time m1 mini - 1:39
*Export time m1 max - 0.42
*Playback not rendered m1 mini - not possible. 1 frame per 10 seconds and then beach ball and sometimes even crashes
*Playback not rendered m1 max - 95% smooth. You can pretty much edit these very complicated project with out stopping at all to render. Which I honestly couldn’t believe. (This is maybe the most important test out of all!)
*Playback rendered m1 mini - 90% yes and freezes up here and there where there are multiple lapyers of 4k-100 footage
*playback rendered m1 max - perfect
*flowing over the timeline with the mouse i rendered is basically not possible on the m1 mini and with the m1 mac its near perfect. It will only skip a beat over a transition.
Both were tested editing from a t7 ssd via usb-c
I then tested it again with all the oroject files directly on the internal ssd’s and the m1 max took of another 10-15 seconds of the render and export times.
Hope that helps someone
