We wanted to put something out ahead of our upcoming dates, and selfishly I felt swamped by the complex, morose narratives in the music Iāve been writing and releasing (not that Macās original doesnāt carry some of that, it just wasnāt why we chose to cover it). I wanted to put something out that exists simply because it feels good. And our version of this track feels good. At least to me. Soā¦ āFor the First Time.ā

Hi, my name is Ethan. I love my family a lot. Even so, some nights I stay up late and hope one of them dies.
Let me explain.
When I was a kid, anytime I didnāt want to go to class, or pissed off a teacher, or just felt cornered by something small, Iād start wishing Iād fall sick, or that something tragic would happen. I figured sympathy was the only thing strong enough to dissolve guilt. That misfortune could cancel out my mistakes.
As I got older, and my list of regrets and transgressions quietly grew (as it does for anyone with a pulse who leaves the house), that way of thinking didnāt go away. It just evolved. The imagined tragedies got more dramatic.
It wasnāt that I wanted to suffer. I just wanted to be seen as someone worth forgiving. And the cleanest path to that, I figured, was grief. Preferably someone elseās. Preferably on my behalf.
Thankfully, Iāve been doing Zoom therapy. Theyāve got me on something called Fluvoxamine. After about a year, those thoughts have mostly quieted down. One thing thatās helped is writing music from the perspective of the worst versions of myself.
So, I guess hereās āDEATH IN THE FAMILY.ā

Today, our debut single āSWEATā is out everywhere, along with the music video, which weāre pretty proud of. Weāve got a run of shows and festivals coming upāsome in LA, some abroadāand weāre genuinely excited (and mildly panicked) to play them. Rough Trade also helped us press a limited batch of 7-inches, complete with an unreleased B-side, now up on their site.Ā
