Oaxaca is one of my favorite places on earth. For me, itās the ultimate place to relax and recharge while taking in a ton of creative inspiration via osmosis. Here, I eat. Plain and simple.
Iāve gotten mole on three of my white shirts but Iām wearing another one to dinner tonight. You can always get another shirt, but good moleā¦itās a rare thing. Perhaps Iāll never learn this specific lesson. Perhaps I should wear a bib like a child. Moral of the story: when it comes to food in this town and soaking up all the awesomeness on a break from work, I canāt be stopped.

Thereās always time for tacos. Before the party or after. Because it doesnāt matter who you are or who you think you are, it's hard to beat a good taco. If someone wonāt eat on the street with you and risk getting a little grease on their cuffāpull the deal, tear up the paperworkāthey canāt be trusted.
On the corner, in the alley, outside your office - thereās really plenty of time for a taco. Feeling timid about dining in public? Anyone who walks by and stares at your impromptu feast is simply made aware that you, right this very moment, have a taco and they do not. Can you really blame them?

Chicago caught me by surprise. A few years ago, I was taking meetings from a friendās ski house in Utah trying to build an elective medical procedure SEO agency (that later failed), I was in search of a city that was A. āNormalā and predictable with a relatively low cost of living and B. Where there was a high number of bariatric surgeons. Chicago fit the bill. I booked a short term rental online intending to stay no more than 30 days.
It was snowing when I got there. There was nothing in the fridge in my rental so I headed out to the grocery store and was nearly hit by a car that spun around in the snow. The window rolled down and I prepared for a street brawl. Not a great start. Turns out it was one of my friends from college, Keenan. He told me to get in and drove me to Whole Foods. Before I got out of the car, he told me I wasnāt going to leave. I didnāt believe him.
That weekend Keenan took me out on a bar crawl and set up a visit with a real estate agent who had a space above a cobblestone alley the next day. With a splitting headache, I walked into a beautiful industrial space with soaring ceilings and wood beams. I was sold. I asked to sign for it on the spot. The realtor laughed and said, this isnāt New York honey, you can send me the paperwork tomorrow. And so I did. Then, a lot of things started to click with content (I had never made a public social media post before), FastOutreach.ai, and later Revise, my annuity co.
Now, here I am eating a personal deep dish outside my car in tribute to a city that I love.
